My brother lives aboard a Gemini with 3 cats named Sailor Kitty, Salty Kitty and Swabby Kitty.

Dog's name should be two syllables.How about "Rudder"?Those dogs often have reddish=brown coloring,i.e. ruddy.

One of our Chihuahuas is "Cap'n Chigger Manuel"also the name of our dingy, (his vessel )

I've always wanted a dog named "Fido". I've never, ever, seen one named that, despite general acceptance that it's a quintessential dog name. Failing that, I'd have one named "Rags"... for those of you that enjoy Woody Allen's early films, you may catch the reference -"woof, woof - my name is rags - woof, woof"....

But for a boat dog, how about:

- "Pepper" (to be the perfect partner for all the 'Salty Dogs', of course - also a nice reminder of a particularly sexy lady detective from a TV series)

- "G*d Damnit" (so when you've screamed at your crew - and then quickly realise you've just been the comsumate nasty *sshol* captain - you can smile nicely and simply explain that you were just calling the dog)

- "Paddlefoot" (for the dog in the 'Clutch Cargo' cartoon series, and with obvious reference to your pup's outstanding swimming ability as well)


- "Gromit" (this would be my favourite... I love 'Wallace & Gromit' and who can forget all their amazing creations, and his wonderful engineering abilities - not unlike all the 'mods' we do on our vessels... but it also refers to the sail reinforcements, too)

- "Dennis" (short for a well known America's Cup sailor from San Diego - I've sailed on his boat and I really don't like that guy, so I'd be quite happy see a dog named after him. It's especially appropriate for a wire-haired dog with a white streak down his snout and a generally foul disposition... even better if the dog bites its owner, gets lost a lot, and is very often found chasing its own tail for hours on end while yelping loudly.)

Or, you could name him Scupper!

Seasar. Pretty easy to say. But if you have teenage boys, they may hear "Seize her". You don't run a pirate ship, do you?

Or you could call it Skipper,although that might cause some confusion.

We had 2 different dogs named Eleo, pronounced Eh-lay-oh. Means Dog in Hawaiian. Common dog name in hawaii.

As for the Sh*t word. When I was a kid we actually had a cat named Sh*tty Kitty. I dont remember what the cats original name was but when it was a kitten thats what my dad called it and it stuck.

First cuss word I was allowed to used without getting popped upside the noggin.

Perhaps you ought to rent a few of Nick Park's films for the family - "The Wrong Trousers", "A Grand Day Out" or "A Close Shave" - and after watching them if they're not agreed that you should name that pup 'Gromit', then they simply can't be convinced whatsoever!

Gromit is the perfect dog for any self-respecting engineer or Mac Modifier.
