The sprayer shower can thing is from this post mentioned above
And Kevin turned me on to this really cool hot water pressure system - it's great because unlike plastic ones where you must heat up the water in a separate pot this one you can put directly on the fire. Also it's high capacity - two gallons is more than enough for two showers. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=26386&p=327533#p327533

Royalties maybe paid to me in anchovy-laden slices.
And yes, Boat, I do still post here. I also still administer here as well.

Hey BOAT, you got a photo or a link to that tanky thing outside of the galley? How big is it? Does it fit on the galley stove?

Yes, we had a very long discussion about it quite a while back on this link:
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=26386&p=327533#p327533
Last summer Kevin mentioned that he was using this portable pressure tank to hose off his wife on the boat and that she LIKED it! So that got my attention. I asked him the usual 99 questions and you can read them in the post linked above.
When I finally got my hands on one I was impressed with it's performance. It was clearly the largest tank of water you could ever put on your alcohol stove FULL that would not damage the stove. The tank heated up on the alcohol stove incredibly fast - I had 100 degree water after 5 minutes on the stove in the boat. After heating the water you pump up the tank about 30 pumps. I was AMAZED how long the pressure lasted - way more than enough pressure for me to take a shower - maybe even long enough for two people to shower before needing to re-pump. Even more important - it was enough water for two people to take a shower without refilling and re-heating - and still a little left over. With that kind of performance 15 or 20 pumps half full would last the whole day for just using it for sink water so I thought - hey? Why not just mount it at the sink and use it as hot running tap water at the sink? No electric needed, no plumbing, no pipes or plumbing.

Well I,m gonna cook a Prime Rib Roast in my brand new Pressure Cooker a first for me never used one before ! So hopefully I don,t blow myself up !
So if u hear any new,s reports about half a cow flying south over Seattle u can just figure out that I just got a new unplanned sun roof mod on the boat lol

Haha that's a good one -

If you click on the picture above and enlarge it you will see that on top one side has the nipple connection for the hose with a shut off valve and opposite of that is a brass pressure release valve with a safety release set well below the bursting level for the tank. It's like the safety release on commercial air compressors.
First off, you DON'T heat the water with the lid on - you remove the pump and handle assembly on top - it unscrews from the tanky thing - the top is shaped like a funnel to help you fill it with water. You heat up the tanky thing on the stove with the pump assembly OFF. Even if you forget about the thing on the stove the water will just boil off - no pressure - it's just an open pot. If you DID put it on the stove with the top capped off the pressure release valve is going to open and make a whistle sound and release the pressure if the water is boiling.
It's pretty safe - and a human would not have the muscle power to pump it up past it's tolerance - your not strong enough. You could explode the plastic ones with too much pumping if you removed the safety valve - but the metal ones are too strong - you don't weigh enough to put that much pressure on the pump handle.
Again, this was a find that Kevin brought to our attention. I don't think he is going to recommend items that will explode on the boat, but I never thought about using it to cook a turkey. I suppose that might be an issue.

Mark
would have to b a pretty skinny turkey LOL
Anyways my prime rib roast turned out great enough for me to have three dinners I sauteed it in the S/S Pot of the pressure cooker with virgin olive oil basting it as I turned it over on each side , then added 1 1/2 cups of chicken stock cooked for 45 mins then added the tattie,s & veggie,s & cooked for 10 more mins then removed the the roast & veggie,s & tattie,s then added 1/2 cup of red wine 2 tble spoons of butter to the broth left over in the pot the boiled it with the lid off the pressure cooker until only half the gravy was left , served with chopped parsley , sprinkled with fresh thyme, chopped almonds then poured the gravy over it Mmmm ! & washed it down with a nice glass of Italian red wine
The nicest thing of all it,s all done in one pot beats an oven anytime & fast
I got the Idea from an article write up done by Practical Sailor apparently they have become more popular again with cruiser,s as the newer one,s r more safer than the older one,s , mine has the regular automatic pressure release valve , but also has a secondary manual release valve which lets use it in the vented mode it has pressure cook mode or slow cooker mode so it can double as both appliances.
Anyway how do u keep that thing from toppling over on the stove while boiling the water I,d b concerned about a boat coming along making a wake while u were boiling the water ?
now u can work on that sink I like the one that Niceaft Ray installed waiting for them to go on sale at Lowe,s I believe he said that,s where he bought it lol

Re: Now, what is THIS lunacy?
Gee whiz, I don't know John, but Kevin uses one for his showers so I assume it must work pretty good at anchor. When I was testing it on the trailer I sort of stayed with it to make sure it did not move around and it heats up pretty fast - like 5 minutes - do you think I should put a pot holders on my stove? I can buy pot holders made by FORCE-10 at West Marine if you think it's a good idea - did you use pot holders to cook the roast beast?Anyway how do u keep that thing from toppling over on the stove while boiling the water

When it's full of water the Zodi Shower is pretty heavy and unlikely to topple over in lightly rocking seas. In heaver seas I'd hold onto it or skip heating it until it becalms.

Re: Now, what is THIS lunacy?
Well that's good news - it did not seem like it was unstable at the time I tested it.
I did make a change on the inner liner of the tank well - always looking for ways to reduce weight on the boat I decided to fashion a lightweight plastic liner to go under the stainless ring in the counter top.
I made the new liner out of plastic buckets:

The buckets have nice rigid rings at the top that make great barrel rings so I do not need to use a metal trash can. This is a lot lighter as a liner for the tank and also fits much better and reduces the heat loss greatly because of the better fit:

Then I wrap it with an R value 6 insulation - I am thinking of double wrapping it for R-Value 12:

Ot do you guys think I should triple wrap it? Geeze! I might have hot water that last TWO days if I triple wrap it!

Re: Now, what is THIS lunacy?
BOAT,
Two questions:
1. Can you tell me where you purchased the SS ring for the counter top?
It's the SS ring in the counter top that makes the install look so professional.
2. What size buckets did you use and where did you get them from?
My wife and I have benn contemplating this project since we saw the post by Kevin. Just couldn't figure out where to put it. When we saw your galley install, we knew that was our solution.

Re: Now, what is THIS lunacy?

I use a local metal fabricator here in Southern California. We have a TON of tin benders in So Cal - more tin benders than taco shops. Los Angeles is the capitol of Sheet Metal fabrication in the whole world - there is a shop on every corner but they can't paint or coat metal. All the ones that did are gone now.
They can do a brushed finish because there are no chemicals involved so that is what I used.
For the rings I used this one:
http://www.so-calmetalfabricating.com/
For boxes or tanks I use other ones. They all have their specialties.
The buckets are also a local manufacturer - (a lot of people don't know that California used to be a Smoke Stack State with lots of manufacturers before the communists took over). There were a lot of plastic shops too, but they all left town because of the same EPA laws Sacramento put in that ran Roger and all the fiberglass boat people out of the state to Florida - I still have this source left for plastic:
https://www.argeecorp.com/

These are all little mom and pop shops that I have been using for years - I used to have hundreds of small business places I could get plastics and metal fab and all kinds of stuff with personal service because there were so many little shops here in Cali but now I am down to only a few companies left I can find - all the rest have been forced out of business or moved to other states because they could not meet Sacramento environmental rules. I still have a few bootlegger fabricators and welders working outside the law I can use but I can't give you their info because they are under the radar of the law and I don't want to lose their services.
