What I often do is reply by quoting the original post.
Click the "quote" button and then respond below the quoted text.

Some very impressive mods.
That Port rub rail didn't look as bad as you described. The previous owner actually did a nice job, although a metal rail would have been better. Removing it certainly did require some major work. Kudos on you. Amazing job painting it. Well done.
You folks down under just had a big cyclone didn't you? Weather looked pretty bad.
Perhaps you can add some help to this captain who is looking for paint match. You seem to have matched the paint perfectly. Looks really great.

How does that anchor roller handle the anchor chain? The install looks so professional and almost like the boat came that way. Very well done. Very impressive work.
I noticed the drain hole on the transom has some kind of metal thing in it. What is this?

The anchor system….this was a big job!
I love this mod, so easy to use and very safe no more going forward to set or pull up the anchor
Hi KiwiMac26M!
Thank you for replying and posting those great photos of your drum winch and self launching anchor!!!
You did an absolutely fantastic job of working things out for your installation.
You really did a great job of thinking things out and addressing all the functionality!
EXCELLENT JOB!!!
We had been toying with several various approaches to this type of mod for Over Easy (Mac26X) and really appreciate your perspectives and thoughtful design as well as your very nice workmanship! You’ve set a high bar to get close to!
One of the aspects we’ve been trying to contend with is the wind up of the anchor chain portion…. We realize that it isn’t always required but it’s something we’d like to be able to incorporate if possible. One of the the several approaches would be to use a larger drum and roller set to accomidate the chain and the line….another is to just add the chain when really needed -> stop short of winding it onto the drum -> then manually deal with it. Yet another is to use an additional tethered ball weight splice / shackle attached a length back along the anchor line to help keep the anchor tang flat on the seabed…yes it probably wouldn’t be as good as the chain length but it would avoid needing to wind the chain onto the drum….
As you have lived with your system in probably more aggressive environments than we anticipate here along the US East Coast Intra Coastal Waterway ( and we are planning on being on larger lakes like Lake Champlain and locations like the Hudson River, the St. Lawrence, the New England Atlantic Coast and possibly the Florida Keys if we have the opportunities to do so) it would be valuable to learn from your experiences along the NZ coasts before we settle on our approach. We’re Never too old or proud to learn from other’s experiences.
Best Regards

Hi Rus
The cyclone wasnt as bad as it looked, we have had worse.
From far the PO's mod looked ok, close up not so much, it would have iritated me untill it was re-instated to as close as original, i had to also install a new rub rail which was imported form the states.
Thanks for pointing out the pluged transom drain, looks like stainless screws were installed, i will remove them, do you know wher they drain from?
For referance, the name of the coulor paint i used was Squadron Blue sorced from Protective paint in Auckland its the 343 gloss

Hi Over easy
I have 10m of chain and 70m of dynema rope on my setup, no problems with rolling it up on the drum and the chain is matched to the rolers so it slides through smoothly, The rope is spliced directly onto the chain. I would never run an anchor without chain, its really the wheight of the chain that keeps the anchor set, I installed an intermediate double roller at the start of the hatch, initially it was bottom only but when the auto launching anchor roller lifted up it lifted the rope higher than the locker lid so i simply added a second roller above to keep the rope from rubbing on the lid. the dynema rope is thinner than standard rope for te same strenght so that is how it all fits on the drum.
Thanks for your kind words, feel free to ask as many questions as needed, im always happy to help

The small holes that are seen on the transom just above the rudders on each side of the boat, 26M are rudder post drain holes. On the inside of the rudders are fiberglass dams. When the boat motors fast water under pressure from the speed of the boat can build up and spill over the rudder post. This water goes into the dam area, and if too much builds up the water spills back out the drain holes. These should be kept clean so the water can flow out. The boat was designed with this.

I know exactly why that PO had that rub strake mod. I’d have done the same thing but on both sides. And may eventually do something similar but not as massive

Just wondering again about the underwater lights
Is the plastic tracking that hides the wire just Panduit that was applied with silicone ?
Also what did you use for the 90 degree for the wire to enter the boat? Panduit again?
(Panduit.. ie cable track)
Thanks
