Where are the "old guard" of this forum?

Still tickin' here. Took quite a lickin' in life's journey though. I was a member back when the Mac group was just a forum, and on here since day one, as well. Was considering selling, but my health issues have improved dramatically, so should be on the water soon, I hope. Still see a lot of the "Old Guard", some of the finest of the finest, still posting. I shall, once again.

Yes, I am, and Annapolis is my favorite place, there is always wind. While I was Physically laid up, as mostly a Land Lubber, to get my sailing bug, I mostly use my Hobie Tandem Island Trimaran in local lakes and Annapolis as well. It is the best therapy I have of the 32 boats I now own. LOL I consider myself a bonafide "Boat - A - Haulic" as in I haul them all, lol, from 6' to 26', and many in between, I have Yaks, Canoes, Inflatables, and RHIBS as well. And yes, they are all on my property, as I am rural, and have a museum of sorts. I stay busy just repairing the oldies but goodies I own, and allow others to use them, at will! My joy is seeing others involved in water sports, introducing or supporting that effort. I am a PADI Divemaster and have 20 tanks, and my own compressor and gear galore along with that too! Water sports can all be fun, as we here know, and I do my best to share that Love, I have. My Mac therefore does not get out much, but have a newer Suzuki DF-50, with maybe 3 hours on it if that? All new rags, and other goodies I shall add as well.

I am a recent widower, as my Admiral passed of cancer, so still trying to figure my life out. I have also fought that battle of 3 different types of cancers myself, and I am winning, so far, anyway! Now I can just hop in my 40' Diesel Pusher Motorhome and shove off to wherever, and however I wish. I still stay as busy as possible, as we all know rust never sleeps! Being in my second childhood, FB Marketplace is my addiction these days! LOL My toybox isn't quite full yet but surely getting there.

A few years yet I hope, anyway! LOL Most of my craft are destined to be bequeathed. Some of the borrowers want me to sell, I said ......... just wait, I am goner, soon enough! HA! Is that what ya meant???? Only a few are parts boats, salvaging others, but most are either new or nearly new craft! Garbage........ my Gems! LOL

I had grand plans of starting the year off by taking folks out on the Mac, to learn or hone their sailing skills, and had many responders in a local forum I am on. Five were serious, but life, as usual got in the way, as I was tending to and laser focused on my wife's final days, which was priority number one, of course. I am a retired Marine, and my wife was laid to rest at Ft Indiantown Gap National Cemetary about 5 miles from my place here. I have owned my 2002 Mac X since new, and she has served us well. I may sell, Lock Stock and barrel, though and pursue my lifelong dream since that Mac 65' first hull was laid. I witnessed the very first one, and the last one being built. I knew Roger personally, and got a tour, of the facility by him. I was also the Secretary for the Venture Yacht Club, out of San Diego, for a spell, and sailed for many years in the Tuesday night Beer can Races with Dennis Conner (America's Cup Fame) himself, as an opponent on a friends Morgan 32'. Tossed a few back, at his table the SDYC Clubhouse as well, after the regattas. Many do not care for the gent, but he accomplished a lot to get this sport the press it needed, and still does! One of my admired heroes anyway!

Really sorry to hear of your loss.
She is an important part of your life even now.
There is no way for us to actually understand your loss but please know that even as somewhat strangers but of like interests we’re all pulling for you. Taking the time to take care of your Admiral was a good choice and a testament to your Marine Corps heritage in the kindness and compassion you demonstrated in a most difficult time.

Sounds like you have acquired quite the collection over time of various different boats. I’m sure each has a unique history to you. Each also having its own design, construction, as well as unique characteristics. I have no doubt that there are others on this forum that would find it both interesting and enjoyable to see and read about them from your perspectives. Others here may also have similar histories or experiences or common ground histories with some of these boats.

Maybe you could start a common core posting to introduce us to some of the boats you have found most interesting. Knowing more about more boats never hurt anyone!

Hello All,
I am new to this forum. Just bought a Mc 19 that has been sitting in a back yard for 20 years or more. It was used only 4 or 5 times. it is in mint condition and it seems all there. However no owners manual. I could use any info or help I can get. I have done quite a bit of sailing. I now live in AZ so I do not plan to put this in the water for a number of months. My long term plan is Puget sound, perhaps Sacramento river, then lower west coast of FL to the keys, then the Bahamas. I am retired so I have the time. I chose this boat because I can tow it with my small hybrid car. I know it is not meant for blue water but, but I have been there and I know what to expect. I am interested in what others have done with this boat, and any suggestions.

I'd like to add my condolences, as well. My wife and I lost one of our sons to cancer this summer. Not the same thing, but in the neighborhood. Retired Navy here, five of that in medical units of the 4th MarDiv. I have just three sailboats at 79. You help me feel a little more normal. On that point, thanks. And Semper Fi.
