For me, mast bend isn't much of an issue, since I have ample controls to get a really flat sail. I'm also maxed out on running control lines. Just don't want any more lines. I will, however, try to experiment with pinning the mast while beating in a strong breeze, then unpinning and comparing performance. Will post here once I have a chance to do this.
Cheers,
Leon

Daniel,
No. Just the top two are full. I have never adjusted them. The top battens have hardware both at the luff and leech. They require no adjustment. The battens are top notch and designed to flex with the sail, rather than force a shape into the sail. The amount of flex probably vaires with sail shape and draft. Not exactly sure how it works but so far, it's been perfect. Even on beam reaches and runs, when the sail hits the spreader and shrouds, the top will twist out just enough to where it's catching max wind. (close to 90 deg) but never past that. Of course, I have to have the vang on at that point. When I refer to the luff curve from mast rotation, even when the sail is flattened, it is rather minor. I'm just being picky.
Have you had much time with your Kelly Hanson pentex sails? How are you liking them?
