I notice in the specs that the ballast is internal, fixed, not flushable. I notice the displacement per overall length exceeds that of our X and Ms by a large margin. This means for many a new heavy duty tow vehicle for a heavy boat.
I really see little other than style that makes this boat different from the small boats of the 1970s that were trailerable.
I'll keep my X thank you.

I guess I need to see the boats. What boats are you comparing? I'm looking at something like the F280c and what to compare it to. The Catalina 25 weighs less but not enough headroom or interior space. It has no kick up rudder and has almost a 3' draft with the swing keel up. I've helped people with set up and tear down and it's time consuming. This is something I'll certainly look into before buying the F280c.I really see little other than style that makes this boat different from the small boats of the 1970s that were trailerable.
I'll keep my X thank you.
We like our 26M and realize there are downsides to an upgrade but everythings a tradeoff. We're looking for something that sails faster.

Hats off to Arthur Kelly ...
Hats off to Arthur Kelly for taking the time to post his response .... and also for being a sponsor of this site. I appreciate someone who is willing to communicate with the group.
Good luck with your new line of sailboats. If you have a location that I can google or mapquest, I will swing by your showroom the next time I am driving through Colorado (we have kids at Montana State and make the trip twice a year). This time I will call in advance. I am really looking forward to seeing the interior of the new MacGregor.
Thanks,
Nelson Amen

And as for the Trailer Sailor discussion, Heck! fame & infamy are of near equal value, aren't they?
Art has worked for many years on this project, all because he wanted a great performing trailerable yacht, with a comfortable cabin, the 280. I think these Aussie designs might make Hunter and Catalina sharpen their design pencils.

Dear Daniel & Richard,
I appreciate the kind words and your support over the years.
It has been a long haul and its great to finally show the new boats.
As we have discussed, they are certainly not intended to compete with the MacGregor in anyway, shape or form. They are pure sailing craft, constructed differently and will attract a different buyer.
There will always be a place in my heart for the Mac and we will continue to continue to sell them and our sails and hardware with enthusiasm.
Rehards,
Art

I have never had any problems in my business deals with Art in fact I just made two purchases with him in the last two days , Everyone is entitled to his or her opinions but just because you expressed it does not make it right or wrong or fact !!!. I notice some people seem to get on a hate wagon ! & don't know when to get off another name for it is Envious !! some people just have No Vision !!!
That's my two Scottish penny's worth don't spend them all in the same store
, But I know a deal when I see one & a deal with quaitly & courtesy is what I get from Art . So that's where the wee penny's are going gotta sew up that hole in my sock losing too many penny's
Thx Art

I completely agree, Art has always been very fair and a fantastic company to deal with. This summer I ordered $120 worth of cleats which were seriously backordered from the manufacturer. He canceled the order, but they accidentally shipped them when they came into stock. Art refused to take them back, insisting that I keep them for my trouble. Fortunately I convinced him that I'd rather have a strong Mac dealer than some free supplies and got them returned. Order with complete confidence, you can definitely trust them. Oh, did I also mention thanks for supporting this site!!!!baldbaby2000 wrote:I think anyone who has done business with Art knows that he runs an honest business. ive seen pics of the Imexus with its 120hp diesel engine on the water, its sure looks the part
Would the width of the new Imexus make it difficult to tow in the States? i.e will you need a special licence or trailer? In the Uk you are left with two choices for towing, unless you buy a small truck, its either a range rover or a landcruiser both cost as much as the boat to buy
i may well wait a few years untill the imexus120hp inboard version comes down to my wallet

The Admiral and I went down to Elizabeth to see Art's Freedom boats this weekend. He had an F270 there but not the F280. This is a real sailboat and is trailerable and has a swing keel. The F280 is the cruising version. He says has the same hull but more interior room due to a different roof. We're seriously thinking about one but I'd miss the high motoring speed and light trailering weight of my Mac.
