Shoving off for the Sea of Cortez

As you know I have spent a little time in Mexico and loved most of the time I spent there. I love Adventures.....
The Food is wonderful and is very simple . It may be time consuming but it will most likely be simple.
If you don't like Brains Tripe and Tongue learn the names in Spanish as you will see them appear often the farther you get from gringos.
Enjoy the adventure and tell us all you can as often as time allows ....

We've made it to San Carlos. Truck trip odometer reads 2104 miles. We crossed the border today, with no surprises or problems. Road was good, although the complete lack of shoulders can be intimidating. If you had a flat, there is no chance of pulling over for many miles, in most cases. We scraped ice off our windshield just north of the border this morning, and passed snow patches along the roadside just south of the border. Come on, you northern guys, you can stop sending us your weather any time.

We'll sling launch the boat tomorrow, and hang out here while getting rigged and making final provision purchases.

Forecast is excellent for our crossing of the Sea of Cortez on Thursday night. That's our plan. My son tells me he will soon have journal entries posted on our website. We're working on inclusion of pictures. Check in at http://chinook.home.dyndns.org . The Sea of Cortez trip will appear as a clickable option when postings begin.

My son says he'll be working on it this weekend, and will try putting the first postings up soon. We'll be here tomorrow, and will probably head out on Monday for San Marcos Island. I've gotten the lowdown on yellowtail fishing from some experts here in the marina, and am eager to give a try.

We started reading your Log related to your Cruising the Sea of Cortez. You log is so atriculate we can imagine being right along side you guys in the cockpit. Your pictures are just great matching your narratves. We can not wait for yor next entry.

Hi Rich,

I'm sitting in the cruisers room at the marina, checking e'mail. The rates are high, by this area's standards, but middle of the road for back home. $10/ft/day; $40/ft/wk; $120/ft/mnth. I ended up doing the week rate. The facilities are brand new and first rate, and the staff are numerous, friendly and helpful. During regular hours there's someone here who speaks English, but even without, we've been managing. Security is excellent. Absolutely no one around the marina except those who are supposed to be here. Well fenced, and 24 hour security staff on duty. And they don't sleep on duty. Close to town and provisioning. Fuel dock available, as well as Pemex station just across the road. Only problem we've encountered is failure of the water heating system to work. Cool showers aren't that bad, especially when it's warm outside. No water in the pool and hot tub yet, but maybe manana. There's an older marina at the other end of the harbor. I don't know what their rates are like, but I'm sure they are lower than here. I suspect you will trade a lower level of security for hot showers.

Nice website Chinook. On the crossing to Santa Rosalia, is there any traffic to worry about at night? Do you use a radar reflector?
