I'm not smart enough to have theories.

Lol. I was afraid I was going to unleash the troll on that one.

For future reference, all my past and future posts are, no matter what, meant to be taken from a friendly point of view. Sometimes that includes a little joke..thanks for taking it well.

Sage marine is making small sailboats.
West wight potter is making small sailboats.
Com pac is making small, slightly more expensive sailboats.

None of those can motor quickly. Which is why I have not purchased one of those others.

Sometimes you just have to build it and they will come, like in field of dreams. :D
My dream is they DON'T. Fewer decent power-sailers along the lines of the Mac 26X and M out there means mine'll be worth just that much more some day. Seriously, I wish nothing but the best for Roger MacGregor and his. They're all welcome aboard any time. Still, if it comes down to a choice between a big successful revival of the Tattoo marque and that cute little blonde MacGregor gal with the fruit plate in that Mac promo film getting a beach house in the Keys or my wife or kids getting an extra 10 Grand or more when I go off to have that long long chat with Elvis, I already know how I'm voting.

By the way, I have a Com-Pac 16 too--my "Dollar Foundling". Now, while she may be one of the almost absurdly prettiest "saltiest" little craft you're ever likely to lay eyes on, I foresee no comparable rise in her value over time to that of a well-kept Mac 26X or M. Then again, if she sold for a case of Yuengling Lager, I'd already be up over 1100%

I am very happy to have the value of my :macm: rise. Of course, the boats I see for sale at higher prices are not.......selling, that is.

It's like real estate, the boat is worth what someone is willing to pay. I believe the interest will be there for a long while.

Of course, if I really wanted to sell her, I would just laminate someone else's mooring bill and tape that to the hull....:)

I do - bridge building is one of the basic troll skills they teach us in troll skool and that was where I learned to shape wood stuff - and that's how I make my living - I sit here under the bridge waiting for someone to cross and then I surprise them and make them pay a toll for using my bridge. (In other words, I write software from home).

Not much, but it's a job.

I was thinking of this earlier as well. However, BOAT is mingling two separate issues; (1) sailing / trailer-sailing as it relates to the middle class & (2) with power-sailors as the reference point. His position seems to read that anything other than a trailerable sailboat with a big HP motor and anything other than what Roger has brought to the table is irrelevant.

Fact: The middle class has always and still is finding ways to get on the water, which includes trailerable sailboats.
Fact: If it sails and trailers behind the family station wagon and you camp in it overnight under a tarp... it's a trailer-sailor.
Fact: If it does all the above and is made on a production line by skilled hands or in one's garage by bandaged knuckles... it's a trailer-sailor.

Fact: Google Trends - while it's data may mirror some event's in the actual world, the GT data ONLY correlates with what the eyeballs are looking at on Google.

(After all this lengthy dialogue, I've forgotten what the question was!) :|

I think the question is whether or not Tattoo if finished making boats or not, and if they can make money doing it.

I feel the answer is no AND yes. Their biggest mistake has been this ridiculously long pause in production. They were already getting press in the magazines about the :tat22:

Imagine if Ford stopped making cars. Everyone would buy another type of car. By not making any boats, Tattoo is driving some of their potential customers to look elsewhere.

Roger followed Henry Fords lead of mass production, basically each boat was identical, like the model T Ford, this is great for keeping costs down, I believe the Model T was available in three colours, Black, Black and Black,

But car companies know the real money is in the optional extras which are much easier to sell at the point of order than later on when the client has the product.

Simple things like upgraded sails, maybe some wood trim, upgraded trailer upgraded cushions etc. make up the DELUXE version with a nice big DELUXE sticker defining it as the desirable option over the standard GL version ,

While I salute Roger for his manufacturing innovation for boats, leaving owners to do their own upgrades is like pouring money they would of payed you down the drain.

We all know storage is poor in our boats, yet where is the optional factory cupboards and tank locker covers?
While catering to the custom & options whims of customers may work for some manufacturers, the challenge is in the extra inventory, space, machinery, personnel, money, logistics that would add to an operation. Roger seemed to run a lean operation that got X number of units out the door with little to no advertising. Look at how many of us have modded our boats to suit our tastes / needs and have come up with a different solution to the same problem. Imagine how far out Roger would have to extend his operation to accomplish that. Perhaps part of the MacGregor success was not offering more, but delivering less.

Back in Autumn 2016 was claiming a Spring 2017 delivery on their new 23's. So far, still just Photoshop pics, a scale model, and a prototype mold under construction. Any thing else of substance? Can you say Wing-Z?!

My question was about the Ventura 23, not the Tattoo 22. I meant to post it on the Ventura thread.

Sure glad I wasn't holding my breath waiting for the T-22`. Just think by now (4 years) I would hold the Worlds record for holding your breath.

I think it might of been 5 or 6 years since I last checked this site..

Its great to see many of your guys are still alive and well.

I seen my doctor yesterday. He only gave me 35 more years to live.. I told him I was bored with retirement and wanted to Sail around the globe
or get into senior citizen dirt bike racings .. He then reduced my time to live to 3 months.

Would anyone want to guess how long it may take for a T-22 to arrive at my driveway.??

I would guess at least another year or two before you might see a :tat22: if ever.

It is like waiting for a Tesla model 3 except Tesla has actually started building several of those.

I am growing weary of waiting for the :tat22: so I reached out to the Ventura folks. They told me their prototype will be at the Miami Beach Boat show this year.

Now I have a tough choice to make:
1 - buy a ventura 23 and pay too much.
2 - modify my mac 19 with a motor bracket and wheel steering making it somewhat like a tat 22 or ventura 23
3 - wait for the boat I really want the :tat22:

I really wish the tattoo corporation would fish or cut bait. 2 years is long enough to tie up any loose ends and either start building :tat22: or close up shop and say we are through.
