Re: Hunters Version of the Mac26
The lady standing, handing the chips over to the other lady in the cabin, her head is touching the cabin ceilling & she is crouched over sure is an ugly duckling "the boat that is " do not like the center dining table ties up the hole center floor plan , I do like the head location though

I like the stern better than mine... but that is about it.
Looking at the water around the hull at speed, I'd say she's a bit slow compared to mine with a 75 also.

Re: Hunters Version of the Mac26
I have had the opportunity to see this boat in person and can tell you the pictures do not do it justice.
The boat is well-built and is loaded with standard equipment.
Prices for Hunter sailboats are set by the individual dealers. I was shown the dealer pricing and it is very reasonable. In fact, I think you will find that the 26M and Edge 27 will cost about the same when similarly equipped. A loaded version of each should run in the low to mid $30's.
The following are some of the things I observed about the Edge:
Trailer is top quality.
The rudder system is dowright cool. It's the VARA system designed by Glen Henderson for the Henderson 30 one design. The single rudder is housed in a cylinder and is raised and lowered from the cockpit floor.
The cockpit is much larger as Hunter carried the 8' 3" beam all the way back to the stern. Entering and exiting the boat is a lot easier since there are no rudders on the transom.
Deck hardware is top-quality throughout. All lines are led aft to the cockpit.
The spars, standing and running are top quality as well.
I really like the sail plan. Nothing like a mainsail with a fat head and big roach.
Unlike the 26M, the head and galley are functional. There is no doubt which boat the Admial will choose when it comes to the functionality and useability of the cabin.
Headroom is 5' 10". It extends further forward then the M.
I didn't get to sail or power the boat but based on the specs as well as the hull design, this boat will perform much better than the M.
Hunter did a pretty nice job with this boat. It will cost a little more than a Mac but the difference is relatively small. The cost factor is mitigated when you consider the overall build quality, fit and finish, long list of standard equipment and improved performance.
I don't believe Hunter has targeted this boat to existing M owners. It is simply a new and viable alternative to the Mac.

Re: Hunters Version of the Mac26
What would the motoring range be with only a six gallon fuel tank and a 75 HP outboard?
(Maybe about 15 miles?)
I doubt that it would make it to Catalina under power.
Anyhow, its a lot less than my 26M with 24 gallons of fuel and a 60 Hp Evinrude.

Re: Hunters Version of the Mac26
not the prettiest boat. Seems well equipped for the price (still going to be a lot over a Mac). Pretty heavy to tow. Not going to tow that with a full size car! Not sure what the trailering width is (do you need a permit?). How much water can it be launched in?
Could be a good value..as long as you don't have to buy a new truck to pull it!

Re: Hunters Version of the Mac26
Having busted up my 26M daggerboard a few times I like the kick up centerboard. It looks like a better sailer than the M with less transom dragging behind it.
