We didn't get out until lunch time Tuesday. Fished the shipping channels, no luck, overnight at Scarborough, beautiful morning Wednesday, caught a feed of sandcrabs and sailed backto Shornecliffe. Not long out as anticipated but very enjoyable.

so what are lot up to as far as creating a club is concerned? Would be great to have your input to the association idea that I have posed. The wider the dispersion of the club the more great ideas that can come in for great things to get up to.

We haven't been up to much. What do you suggest? Some of us have had contact and sailed together here in QLD. Do you think regular get togethers or more contact via other means? The "club" I believe is a great idea,however we are struggling to get it together.

I suppose that in the short term there may not be a great deal of payback for helping to get an association up and running. However I believe that in return will come in the mid to long term. We know that more and more macs are being bought into Australia, and a lot of these buyers will be new to sailing etc. New owners tend to want more information and face to face contact. The best way to acheive this would be by looking up the local association and joining in. There is also a good number of existing owners who want to join up, but are shy to get it going. We can but try.

In the short term, we would have a few members scattered all over the place. But I strongly believe that in the mid term (once we're a going concern) we would attract a reasonable amount of numbers in most states. Wether it would be enough members to have different associations in each state, I tend to doubt. But a real possibility is to have enough numbers to generate a reasonable amount of social functions/sailing adventures in each state. A bit of organisation could work in our favour.

In about a month or so, I'm hoping to have a 'preliminary' meeting of like minded people in Melbourne to try and talk through some of the issues of getting an association up and going. We have already organised to have a teleconference running to enable interstate mac owners to join in thismeeting. Depending on the outcome of that meeting, would be the viability of becoming an association in the short term. I'd really like to get something going before the next sailing season starts.

We need ten members to get the show going, would be great to have some from the sushine state.

I think the idea of a "national" body is worth a go. I had only been thinking of a more localised group, but the more members the more potential benefits.If you post the details of your teleconference I'm sure it will generate plenty of interest. You can count me in.

Ive been keeping a bit of a low profile of late but I'm all for an association also. Like Ray I think would also like a more local basis to things.

So calling all QLders do you want to have a bit of a catch up?
Should we have a land meet say at a yacht club suitable to all and have a few quite beverages and put some thoughts together?

The VMR at Sandgate would be a good venue as we can use the B-B-Q facilities and BYO. It is a good venue for kids as well. I don't really mind where we do it as I live in South Brisbane so travel north or south no real problem. Manly would be fairly accessible to most I guess as well but I'm not really familiar with the clubs down that way.
