Have you checked the accuracy of your measuring device? If you're using a common level and if it has ever been dropped, or shocked, it may very well read 3 - 4 degrees off true. Small, "spirit levels" are particularly prone to errors. I'd recommend that you calibrate your level.

Incidently, you say your boat lists toward port. Which port; Charleston?? That's a beautiful city!
And I recommend, Dennis, that you get your humor writer calibrated :D :D :D

Rick :) :macm:

PS I'll be passing near your home tomorrow (Sat) on my way to Palm Springs and the Spa Casino and then to Valley View Casino in San Diego County. Too bad I won't have time for a boat ride at Perris!

Before I took my boat out of the water today, I checked the angle with my digital protractor, set on top of my 4' level over the hatch opening, and it came out to 4.17 degrees. Since others have indicated that their boats also list, I'm going to assume that this group of boats were built on Monday or Friday. And you blue hull M guys thought you were special. We "listers" are a much more select group!! :) :)

Charleston is nice, but the lake I sail on flows to Savannah, so my boat would never list to Charleston.

I think I found the solution for any listing problem :!:

Someone told me (in another thread) to fill up the ballast tank of mi :macx: with mi "Home made $hit"...

And cross the Atlantic ... :P

They even promised that there would be a happy welcome committee waiting for me somewhere in your west coast...

But a little MOD came to mi mind

I don't think I could arrive to the US with the ballast tank intact. 8)

Do the same thing to your boat...

If you cant find mi "Home made $hit"... Fill it with Tennessee $hit . It will work fine.

Ad to your boat, mi small useful mod ... A little pine thought the vent...

- - - - - - -

You will see when returning... :o

Your boat will be perfectly vertical :o

and if you note that there is something wrong with the horizon

It wont mater anymore... :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I now understand what you are mad about, I would be damned mad too if my x listed to port or even starboard
for that matter. Since we are neighbors and sail the same waters
(when there is water in the lake) I feel obligated to chime in with another idea of the posible cause of your listing.
Could it be the ballast tank was built into your hull slightly off center. I think the tank top and any baffle would be prefabed and placed into the hull in one or more parts and glassed into place. If not so skilled workers
on the assembly line were hung over or just in a hurry, I can imagine this happening. I don't think you or anyone else commenting here has stated that the listing problem is the same with an empty ballast. I would compare listing
with full ballast to listing with empty ballast. To check to see if one side of ballast tank is higher than the
other you would have to measure for the top of the shear down to top of the ballast tank port and starboard.
It can't be off by much or the liner would not fit in the hull when it came to that part of the assembly process.
I haven't noticed a list in with my 26x , but mine is a 96 with the smaller ballast tank.
Hope the water level in the lake is up this spring and hoping I'll run into you on the water, I sail out of bigwater marina, keep the boat on the trailer there in the spring and fall, conditions permitting.

My old X often lists to port,
But the captain's not the listing sort.
So all the crew knows what to do.
Just put a wedge in their left shoe.

Now in the case of crocodiles
That grow so large below.
Will they eat my chicken necks?
That's what I want to know.

My wife and my X don't get along.
The disputes... the list is long.
One likes beer and one likes port,
But only one can sing a song.

Now, worry not which way you list
Or if you're arrow straight.
Life's too short to be confused.
For dinner, don't be late.

So if you find you've got port list,
It's really clear to me,
That you add some weight to the starboard side
And invite us all to sea.

Paul, Like I said my boat must have been built on a Monday or Friday. :? :? But, you raise a good point, does it list w/o ballast? I will check that out when I put the boat back in next week.
The lake level doesn't seem to be rising very quickly. I sail out of Hartwell Marina and they have moved the docks four times since last July. I was at Bigwater two weeks ago, and was shocked at the lack of water, hopefully, it has risen since then. Without a little help from the rain gods, I'm afraid we aren't going to have much of a sailing season this year. :( I've only seen one other "X" on the lake, and he is in the slip next to me, so I will keep an eye out for you this year.

opie, Dude, you have way too much time on your hands!!!! But, I like it and my boat is honored to be the subject of your poetry. Now if it started out "There once was a man from Nantucket......" Well, you get the idea. :D :D

Also just grasping for an idea or two to suggest, does it list with the center board down? Using various items can you stand or add weight to the starboard side and correct the list? That might give you and idea of how much weight you are looking for but keep in mind the location of the weight and the distance from the center line. I do not know the anatomy of the X that well but could the head area have been lightened? The dinnette changed? I am curious just how much weight it takes to cause a 4 or 5 degree list, if you go below and sit on one side or the other does it list that much?
