When I first put the Island in the water (2005 maybe?) it had been sitting for 10 years and the bearing grease was solidified to the consistency of candle wax. The bearings were rusty but spun free in the races. I replaced all four and used Moly grease in them. This boat only sees fresh water. The bearings sounded and felt awful. I had picked the boat up in Buffalo in 1997 and trailered it 300 miles to Albany in this condition.

I wrestled with the tire size and opted for the 4.8x8 smaller ones on all my small trailers. There are about 50% cheaper than the next size - by using the same size on all my trailers I only buy one spare! I keep the old ones for winter storage too.

Incidentally - 4.8x8 tire on RIM

Trailer parts supply 21 USD LOADSTAR

West Marine 54 USD CARLISLE plus I have to pay the 5 USD per tire disposal fee and 8% NYS tax

Yeesh - I love the WM guys here in town, but not that much...
