I think the Tiller Clutch looks great too. Before I buy one however, I'm going to try the surgical cord and line method to see if it works.Erik Hardtle wrote:There is a better product I found than the tiller tamer

Re: Tiller questions...
Update: I've used it twice so far (the line and surgical tube method) and it seems to work reasonably well.arknoah wrote:I think the Tiller Clutch looks great too. Ark, can you post a picure of the surgical tube idea? (or is it already in a mod I missed?) Thanks!

Re: Tiller questions...
I added a tiller clutch to my new tiller this season and absolutely love the instant finger-tip control. Been out about a dozen times and so far so good.

Re: Tiller questions...
Okay, bringing this one back up...
I was fitting the rudder and tiller today, and playing with the hold-down cable...based on where it is and how long it is, and how long it has to be for the rudder to swing up, it appears that I would have to have a cleat up on the tiller where my hand goes in order to put a line on the end of the cable to tie it off! I know this isn't right...
Since I can't put the rudder down while on the hard, I left it on but sitting on the grass. I measured between the rudder pivot bolt and the rudder tie-down bolt hole, it measures 8-3/4". I used that distance from the pivot bolt to the tie-down bolt hole to determine how long the cable would stick out of the bottom of the post when holding the rudder down - pulled the cable pretty straight down until the measurement from the rudder pivot hole to the loop in the cable (where the tie down hole and bolt will be attached) was the same (8-3/4") and then marked the cable up at the top. This should simulate having the rudder pulled all the way down. The cable went up to the Tiller Tamer (which is well past the cleat that is mounted on the tiller).
Then I lifted the rudder all the way to "up"...and pulled the cable tight, up to the tie-down bolt hole location as it would be if it was still attached while the rudder was raised. Marked the cable up on the tiller - and it was "all the way back", at least to the fitting the PO had put on there.
Essentially, the only thing I think I can do is shorten the cable until it is just barely sticking out the top when in this last "rudder up" position...and this would give me the shortest possible cable length, hopefully taking enough off to allow me to attach a rope to the end for the cleat.
Anyone else with an S have any ideas?
