Couldn't say, don't have enough experience...but I'd guess not.

It's more of a "quick-connect" thing...if it fits the reefing clew eye, it might have been put in there as a way of not having the rope through it all the time, but I suspect it wasn't even that technical - I'm still thinking it might have been used for something like a preventer or to hold the boom out of the way when anchored. Might have been something they hooked TO the boom from a loop...to hang it from the boom...no telling. :?

Put the boat in the slip yesterday. Went out after work today, rigged the mail sail, changed the rigging of the lazy jacks, mounted the solar panel, tested the passive ballast vent, re-installed the dodger and plugged in the Edgestar.

Last thing I did was put on the sail-cover. The hook was perfectly placed for the grommet on the end of the cover. I think the mystery has been solved! :)

Tomorrow, we are finally going sailing 8) !
