You might have a look at the Corsair/Ferrier Trimarans. They're very much "like a mac" in terms of cleverness but way easier to trailer than the Mac 36. Unfortunately they keep their value well and are 2X the price. Ian Ferrier was very much a Roger MacGregor type, and those boats have put up with their fair share of the "never sailed one but it must be terrible" crowd.

I crewed on one in Oceanside when I was considering them, but the cabin space was too constrained to be an option for my family. Otherwise I would have pulled the trigger. They're hella-fast--We got up to 14 knots in moderate winds. A whole different game than the mac.

So this is my first post on the site. We bought a 2102 Black two weeks ago.
Knowing how had it is to keep a black car looking good we still went with the black VS the white that the dealer had.
It just looks so much better than all the white ones
However sitting inside the boat on a sunny day in the parking lot the Black IS much warmer inside than the white one that was just beside it. We do live in Canada and we do get summer. I hope a black boat sitting on the cool water won't be too hot.

Congrats on the new I've only seen pics of a noire Mac but it sure is classy looking. As far as being hot just remember, the blue hulls were the fastest until now

Old Ben Franklin discovered that dark colors absorb the suns rays and light colors reflect. That being said, a boat on the parking lot will get hotter than a boat on the water. You will be fine. Don't fret, sail

If they offered it when I bought mine, I would have gotten the black. Looks so nice.

I have nothing to compare, but our blue is not an oven but I do feel heat on the hull when the sun hits it. Kind of nice at our latitude in the mornings.

Your blue and his black are close enough to compare without any differences. I really don't think that there will be any problems once that black swan is on the water. No different that the heat any of us would feel if were right next to him. Well, maybe a white Mac would be slightly more comfortable.

Mentioned earlier in this thread was praise of Rogers' business plan etc.
He has been an amazing business man. I remember when that couple blocks around MacGregor boats was lined with other sailboat manufactures. There were, at least ten other companies within rock throwing distance of MacGregor. He's the only one left there and many of the others are boat names you wouldn't even remember. How he has lasted all these years is an amazing thing.
Forty some thousand boats and 40 years. I bet that's more boats than the combined total of all the, above mentioned, defunct boat builders that were once his neighbors and competitors.

Amazing fellow, amazing products.

I remember my younger days, when I dreamed of owning my own sail boat............ yea and winning a lottery, so I could afford one. Roger changed that. He made sailing a sport that guys like me could afford and enjoy..............

Exactly...for all of the complaints about cheapness ( and I'm guilty as charged) no one has successfully executed the biz plan like Roger....without this price point I'm another sailor who couldn't have gotten into it ....

very true, put me on that list also, 26 thousand for a brand new boat with almost every option available(KH special),can't beat that.

Different here in Oz. A fully optioned M cost about 70k new (US and AU $ are about the same) , but more still sell here than anywhere else. Its not about a "cheap" boat here. Plain and simple, if you want a trailerable cruising boat comfortable enough for a family of four that is safer than most other trailer sailers, and can do a bit of everything, they are simply the best boat on the market,,, and the guys with the smarts know it

As to Black Ms, well here we would agree with that famous quote by Nathanael G Herreshoff who said:
"There are only two colors to paint a boat, black or white, and only a fool would paint a boat black."

However dont get me wrong, not baggin anyone buying a black one, if I were in Canada, UK etc I would probably think about it myself, its just that you would just have to have a few kangaroos loose in the top paddock to buy one here
