Re: Color of Boat Name
It was mentioned that in the Florida sun black is not a good color.
I've had black Sunbrella fabric on our seat cushions, back cushions, and captains seat for sign seasons and they are always comfortable to sit on. The Sunbrella fabric is Designed to be that way and I have had it exposed for several days that were hundred plus days. The big problem with it is cost, but it is always comfortable.
This is just to put to rest concerns by anyone who wants a dark Sunbrella fabric but has concerns about hot days. It stay dry and comfortable.

Re: Color of Boat Name
Ray, you are right about sunbrella. That stuff is amazing. Our bimini is made of it and it's really not hot to touch. Those beige MacGregor cockpit cushions get so hot, we had to cover them. If your bare skin touched them it would burn.
Our sun is bright and we have a mile less atmosphere to filter the UV, yet those sunbrella fabrics don't fade.

Re: Color of Boat Name
yours maybe comfortable in black but mine in light blue is even more comfortable its Physics - black absorbs heat weather its sunbrella or nasa grade insulation and actually the point of my Post was to maybe choose something that can be color coordinated for a title color not to say black is bad.It was mentioned that in the Florida sun black is not a good color.

Re: Color of Boat Name
Old Ben Franklin discovered that over two hundred years ago when he placed different color fabrics on snow.
If you are ever on a quiz show it might be important, but in this context it isn't.
Comfort is comfort. Whether comfortable light blue SUNBRELLA is more comfortable than comfortable black SUNBRELLA, comfort is comfort. I was only belaying any fears that anyone might have if they were thinking of using a dark SUNBRELLA product. Notice that I am only referring to the SUNBRELLA brand. I do not know anything about other brands. Yes, your light blue is probably even more comfortable, but if anyone is thinking about a dark color (black, maroon, dark green, red, etc,), if you use a SUNBRELLA product, your bare skin will be quite happy when you sit on it in the hot sun. Your pocket book though will not be.

Re: Color of Boat Name
I paid $25 a running yard of 60" sunbrella and if your handy at all its so easy to make a bimini. I was amazed that my friends wife popped it out in like 2 hours oh and the matching thread was $10 so to replace my bimini cost me $60 - 2 yards and a 7 layer burrito she demanded as payment sail cover came from http://www.surplusunlimited.com/ and was $60 with tax so for $120 my boat looks pretty snappy - so if you know what your doing you can get a lot for your buck the sailcover is cheaper to buy than to make the bimini is not, or at least thats how it worked out for me.

Re: Color of Boat Name
Be careful of what you post, you might start getting orders
The Mods don't approve of that. They might want a piece of the action

Re: Color of Boat Name
Catigale is very correct. If you think you've ordered the right size, increase the size one more. I am very pleased with the coloring of Galactica's lettering. I based it off of the colors of the MacGregor oval name plate on the 26M; however, I wish I would have made it two sizes larger!Catigale wrote:...and make the letters bigger than you think look right...I got that sage advice from Chip H, and he was spot on...

Re: Color of Boat Name
So can someone who has ordered letters from BoatUS let me know what the "right size" is? I ordered 5" and that's WAY too small.

Mastreb,
Go here, and look at the bottom of page one and read Matt's post. He has measurements. This may help.

Just to toss mine into the mix, here' s the lettering I used for 'ikena maluhia (Peaceful View), a
:

I have Irish Green Sunbrella bimini and covers for sail, center console, and jib (sewn in). The color matches. Well, at least until the UV changes either the letters or the canvas (or both).
