Heck, I want both a telescoping dagger board and a telescoping mast.

Seems like you could make the daggerboard trunk just tall enough to support the end of the table, yet still keep the interior visually open.

Make the mast telescope up from inside a 8' tube stepped just ahead of the telescoping daggerboard trunk. Make it self supporting carbon fiber, no stays except the headstay. The boom attaches right at the top of the fixed tube.

Drop the boat in the water, push a button, up goes the mast, down goes the board and off you sail.

I know the production based on the hull numbers being shipped is lower than the average yearly X production by a substantial amount, but I would bet that the X took a few years to ramp up to it's peak as well. The M is selling. You can see this in the recent post by a person with cash in his pocket looking for a boat to buy immediately. Very few dealers have stock on their lots. Bluewater up here can't get a new boat until June because they sold so many at the recent boat shows thay now have a long back log having sold every boat the factory can ship them. Will M sales equal the X? We'll have to wait for 8 models years to really know.

Mark, yes, of course I'm speculating. And those M boats being produced appear to be selling well enough. But the original $18,995 of the M vs $14,995-$15,995 of the X in the last years of production was bound to have a significant effect on demand. That's aside from the other X vs M issues. The latest $1,000 increase will no doubt have a smaller effect, but isn't something you'd want to do if you were trying to increase demand. It tells me that Roger felt that the overall result of an extra $1,000 times 390 units per year would be increased income even if 38 fewer units per year were sold (compared to say 428 units last year).

BTW, the lower section of your telescoping board could be lead.

Mine is hull number 3067, assembled very early in model year 2000 (July '99). Ergo, ~3,000 boats during the first four "full" model years, 1996 thru 1999, or about 750 X-boats per year. Seems like that rate remained consistent through the end of production.

I see the telescoping board having a lead torpedo bulb at the end. It nestles into a smooth recess in the hull so raised only the lower half protrudes for smooth motoring, yet down you get the maximum lever arm from the board.

The bulb can be water ballasted. Then just pump air into it to lift the keel

• It's probably evident to most, but just in case ... the above idea of a water-ballasted bulb is completely facetious. The idea of lifting a water ballasted bulb with air is also facetious. In fact, the idea of a telescoping keel is facetious. For anyone unsure about the concept of facetious, ask Kotter.

Some have increased 20 30 50% This from my son in law who is a World Rep for a Major Plastics and Ceramics product development company.
How many M's are being built ? Have they slowed production . Had any labor lay-offs ? Is the economy effecting sales ? Is it effecting sales of boats within this price bracket. Moe you like your boat that's great . I'll tell you honestly how much I like and or what I dislike about mine After . . .I've sailed it for the season.
