Might try a larger ring. I have a turn buckle on the head stay. I Loosen it to slip the pin in, then put on the ring. Then I just snug up the turnbuckle. Never had a problem putting the ring in, but takes getting the feel of it. You might also try a good bolt, with a locknut on it. Buy one online, high strength SS. Not sure but I think a Clevis pin is stronger then a regular west marine bolt. You could also affix a shackle to the bow chain plate and tie the head stay to it with multiple passes of light dyneema or similar line. That would be far stronger then any other method, but might be subject to a bit of chafe. I bet not much though. Using this method, it is possible to get things quite snug with little effort. No rings, no pins, no turnbuckles. Use good quality shackles such as Wichard, on the wire end and chain plate. I would replace the line once per year at nominal cost. I may go that way if I get tired of that turnbuckle.
