Hi Tom

I am hoping I can get away with downsizing to one of the SUV's I mentioned

My Durango is far to heavy on gas for my liking

Especially when we are talking driving a vehicle all year, for the sake of a few tows in the summer months

Which boat floats off the trailer better? It was not obvious to me looking at the boats cuz I'm not much good at waterline judgments.

And with the 75 in level trim, there is lots of room to get in from the stern ladder

But tilted up for trailering........... not going to happen

Do these tow vehicles "Santa Fe", "Highlander" and "Durango" have six cylinder engines? If so, are you required to use high test gas? My experience using a GMC Savana Van Explorer conversion (300 HP, V8 engine, regular gas) with the tow package has been good. Summertime warm weather gas mileage (no tow) is 19 to 20 mpg at 60 mph. Wintertime mileage is 16 to 18 tops. Check this out especially the interior http://www.explorervan.com/index.cfm
The aerodynamics built into this van really work especially on windy days. Also tows with ease.

Feval75, I don't know in which country you reside, but if it is Australia,you will be illegal virtually straight away. The boat and trailer are good for 1905kgs. Put the barest of essentials on it, and you're over that. Be aware of legal and insurance issues. I bought a beefier trailer, and one with dual axles. I sleep much better at night.

Hello Stan, I agree completely, I hope Tattoo will solve this problem soon!!!

But: Check out how the police weight the trailer: Here normally the axles get weighted, and the tongue weight counts to the car weight.
So you can end up more or less legal with 2000kg. But is to say that mostly the trailer gets even heavier!

Unfortunately, in Australia the ATM (aggregate trailer mass which is the total weight when not coupled to the vehicle) of the Mac trailer is 1905kgs. From what I can gather, most Ms are very close to that with a 50/60hp engine, sails, one battery, empty fuel tanks and very little else.

I tow with a Mitsubishi Pajero which is just fine (except for the fuel bill). I believe the Pajero is named the Montero in the US because Spanish is quite popular there and in Spanish, Pajero apparently means "one who likes to play with ones own willy".
