Yeah, I had basically the same set of problems. Would have been nice if anyone who had actually single-handed an ocean crossing had been a consultant on the film.

What I read about the production indicated that the director/producer knew a little about day sailing - not much - and that was extrapolated into "we know what we're doing."

I like watching the distant shores series of video,s on their world travels ,I have their first 5 video,s , & @ the TO boat show I just got a deal on their last 5 video,s so I now have their whole collection & some nice relaxing vids to watch this winter

We watched Riddle this past weekend...actually a pretty good movie!

And then we watched all of the free Distant Shores videos that we could find from their website...! Very cool! We want to get the super pack, but have to wait a little while.

Actually a pretty good movie! Hey, its got sailing, beautiful wooden boats, a spy, mystery kind of plot, and a young Jenny Agutter - what do you mean actually!!??

Not only that, but its based on a fictional book which had a big influence on British foreign policy, probably more than any other work of fiction has influenced any government, which is just what it was written to do, and it seems the author was onto something!

I will have a look at this Distant Shores.

Not technically 'movies', but the S/V Delos videos are good for short fixes of sailing and warm and no snow. And there are a LOT of them at this point.

The editing has gotten better over the course, though it was pretty good right from the start. Damn professional at this point. Which makes it all that much better to watch.

<long sigh> Makes me really miss my old keel boat. It's back on the market, too. With nifty improvements, like air conditioning. And a folding wheel. Asking price is less than I sold it for, which in turn was much more than I bought it for originally (used). <long sigh>

I too have been following Brian & S/V Delos , and agree...it's top notch... although I get hungry for some Kiwi afterward Untie the lines is another good one imho...A single German girls struggles with Her boat.... lower budget...but good. There are a few other good ones out there also. Ron.

So the admiral and I have watched a number of old maritime-type movies lately, some of the best being Horatio Hornblower (51), Captain Blood (35), and Moby Dick (56). Thoroughly enjoyed the old school boat stuff!
