Mac Bump

Post by Tahoe Jack »

Hey, this is a popular subject, several threads are closely related. We just posted our new 26X mod for trailer winch upgrade and relocdation. This seems to have solved the 'bump' for us. Take a look. Tahoe Jack

Mac bump

Post by edurbin »

Yes - I've done the bump for 9 months now.......but I've only just worked out how to do it correctly (IMHO). In my case I was diligently winching as tightly as possible and then attempting the Mac bump. This required fairly aggressive acceleration and then standing on the brakes. Then I got a bit smarter. Apply the chain between bow and trailer, and then release the pressure on the winch. The bump will now work beautifully with a gentle acceleration and then gentle pressure on the brake pedal. Without the pressure on the winch jamming the bow into the forward vee berth, the boat will ride up and forward with ease.

Also, I tried to find the liquid rollers - but not in Australia. Instead I did find a silicon lubricant at the home hardware store. Sprayed a bit of this on the bunks with the Mac bump done properly and the boat really does slip with ease into the vee block.

Also, put a roller just in front of the forward vee berth. This helps a lot when driving the boat onto the trailer, especially for steeper ramps. The roller carries no weight when the boat is on the forward vee berth, but it does help a lot to get the bow up onto the berth. I was needing quite a bit of engine thrust to get the bow up into position. The roller makes this much much easier.
