Re: Worst Nightmare
Hi Matt,
Thanks for all the great information. Since sending my PM I've been told that I'll never get a carbon mast past the insurance company so will have to stick with Ally unless they decide to reject my whole claim.
I'm now told that the suggested Ally replacement has a wall thickness = 2.6mm and is 2.35kg per meter.... so it's very close to the Mac diagram.
I'd really like to know more about the track where the sail Slugs go in... My old mast has a large entry slot but l've read that it's different on the newer masts?

Re: Worst Nightmare
I did the same thing last year. I just looked on Craigslist and found another mast...$200 for the mast and pop top cover for my V24

Re: Worst Nightmare
Do you mean the opening where the sail slugs enter the track slot? You'll have to cut that yourself, right above the mount point for the boom. A Dremel can do it.Neo wrote:Hi Matt,

Re: Worst Nightmare
Yep the "Track slot"... thanks.
My old one was about 10" long and both sides of the track was flared out quite wide.

Hey Neo - Blue Reef Yachts (Mac/Tatoo dealers) on the Gold Coast have a new mast listed at AU$2180. Not sure if you've tried them or even if they are still in business after the supply debacle, but the website is still there! Goodluck with it all.

Well, or just don't invite 'boat' over to your house to see your new mast track, because he likes to play with stuff and lose the ball berings in the grass in your back yard.mastreb wrote:. . . way to go is the Harken Batt-car AA system, which I did on my boat. The only two issues with it are . . . the tendency of the ball-bearing cars to lose bearings. Matt

According to BWY Blue Reef Yachts have none but I'll check them out ... but that price is very high for a naked mast
All the best.

Hello,
Dwyer Aluminum has bare extrusions. Looks like $500 ~ $600 for a comparable mast. All you have to do is drill holes where needed.

Don,
I don't know if you realize Neo is in Australia. Shipping may be a bit pricy.

Re: Worst Nightmare
I think over here in the Americas we could trade South america for Australia, then it would make the shipping charges a lot better in the future. I think we should swap - let's trade South America for Australia.
Who owns Australia? Who should we call to get this deal done?

Re: Worst Nightmare
Well,
There are extrusion manufacturers in Australia too, like Allyacht, Capral and Tempo. Same deal, pick the extrusion and buy the length you need.
