I can’t agree with you more about FB.
Can’t stand the inconsistency’s or triteness which seems common across just about everything FB.

Long before I bought my Mac, back when there were only Ventures, there was an Amphicar that used to come down to the boat ramp and just drive in. The look on the faces of people who did not recognize it as he drove down the ramp and right into the water was unforgettable . His speed as left the marina reminded me of the Russian proverb, "The marvel is not that the bear dances well, but that the bear dances at all."

By a strange coincidence I bought my in that same marina after moving away 30+ years earlier.

Yes! I love the amphicar!
There was one somewhere near where I grew up and it would be in the local town 4th of July Parades!
Thought it was the neatest little car!
Better than the James Bond versions (that didn’t actually work) and that it was an actual production (limited) car normal people could buy in it’s time.

But the funny part was that the Amphicar really could dance!!!
That was one of the absolutely coolest vehicles!!

In 1965, two Amphicars successfully navigated the Yukon River in Alaska.

Two Amphicars crossed the English Channel in Sept. 1965 enduring 20-foot (6.1 m) waves and gale-force winds.
(Tough little cars!)







Never wanted a High Performance Italian, German, English or American barely raid legal sports car or muscle car (although I did cobble together a Catalina with a over bored engine, a Holly double pumper quadrajet carb, Nitrous Oxide boost and removed about 800 pounds of sheet metal and interior weight for several months).

Ahh, but did you know the Amphicar had a British motor? It used the engine from the venerable Triumph Herald (also later used in the Triumph Spitfire sports cars).

Triumph had a nice engine and package!

The Amphicar also had a 4 speed synchronized gear box with reverse and an auxiliary “shift lever” so the propellers and drive wheels could both be engaged concurrently for getting into and out of the water while allowing the drive wheel to be disengaged once away from ground contact!
Hit a sand bar? No problem, engage the drive wheel and drive over it!

It was an amazing car for its time and no one has really come back with an equal to it in over five decades!

How to tow this floating in-law / out-law relative amphibious accommodation !!!
Ahh kin makes a reverse “Y” adapter tongue that has a pair of gimballed u channel pivots dat fits ov’r da rudder brackets den goes back from each side aroudsvda motor and then to the trailer hitch!
Da in-laws kin come along, da Admiral will be happy an Ah don’t have da in-law/out-laws Ins da boat!

You all have been wonderful, but with quite a few new members, I suppose it’s time for a preemptive reminder to head anything off at the pass. I’ll basically repeat my post from a few years ago, since it’s still applicable…

I want to personally thank all of our members for keeping this forum all about boats and not letting it get dragged into a political morass.

In the past we admins have sometimes had to jail threads, 'instruct' members on proper behaviour or generally play 'bad guy' to anyone with an axe to grind. It wasn't fun.

This year I have seen hardly anything to even raise an eyebrow since you've all stayed focused on helping each other with their boats, which is exactly why this forum exists.

Regardless of how things progress in the political realm, I know you'll all continue to keep this space strictly about boats, adventures and camaraderie, as it should be.

And for that, you have my personal thanks to each of you for keeping this the friendliest boating board on the 'net!

And I want to personally thank the moderators for the job that they do. It's remarkable these days to have such a pleasant space to discuss our boats. It's hard to de-troll-ify some people... I remember the fight to calm down some of our most prolific contributors... hahaha not gonna mention boat names, or maybe I did?

Trying to quote Kevin from memory: "I'm gonna ban your IP address and every IP address you ever use or used..." Not fun to have to engage, but creates a very enjoyable space for the rest of us. Thank you.

Hey Guys,

I have been on the site about a month now after purchasing my 1st 2008 26M. I got it from a good man who is a retired engineer from the Navy. He fell of off his other boat and broke his back and was down for a few months. He decided to keep only one sailboat.

I like versatility in everything I own. That is why I bought the Mac.

I am trying to learn as much about the boat early so I can possibly not have as much "error" in the trial and error process.

I appreciate your responses to my questions. I hope to form them in a manner so that others can learn from the details and possibly reduce their errors.

There are 20 years of knowledge on this forum. This forum is the reason I bought my Mac site unseen. I hadn't stepped foot on a Mac but knew it was the right boat for me from the comments here.

Yes, it is a versatile boat which is how most of us use ours.
