I'm planning to be at MDR at 7:00 am so that I'll be able to launch at 8:00 am. Does this work for you Rick? I really don't think that I could go any earlier, as I have to hitch, travel, and rig. I'll ask Mike Inmon what time would work for him and get back to you. He said that he was going to contact some other recent customers to get more boats to go.
I really want to go over with company, as it's been 100 years since I sailed there.

Hey Mark, dont worry if someone doesnt go over at the same time as you
I would be willing to come back aways and meet you somewhere in the channel. We will work out something. Have you considered leaving your boat at the mast up at MDR? or leaving earlier, I know its hard to get the time off then depend on the sea being friendly at the same time.
Any way be more than happy to come out and meet you. Once you get past the point and into the channel your half way there. Give me a call on my cell when you leave MDR if no one is riding over with you.

Thanks Aya, but Mike Inmon and at least one other boat (one of his recent customers, Alessandro) will be leaving from the MDR fuel dock between 8:30 and 9:00 am, so I'll have company. But that is a really nice offer to make.
Jetta01 - Rick are you and Molly going to join us Friday AM or wait until the night before to decide if you're doing the night crossing?
Here is who's going so far:
Mark & Greg
Jetta01
aya16
Timmy Z
scott vos
Mike Inmon & crew (Inmon Yacht Sales)
Alessandro
Is the consensus to use Channel 63 again? I think that is the channel the Race Committee uses, and we had interference from them on our last sail.

I'm sorry, I didn't make it clear, I'm going Saturday morning. I can't leave Friday, although I would like to. This goes for Inmon, Alessandro, and I think Jetta01 (Rick).
Or maybe it was Channel 68.
By the way, the long-range forecast is for rain on Friday the 24th. The forecast does not yet show Saturday the 25th, and it IS 10 days away, so it could still change. But this doesn't look good . . . .

Damn the rain full speed ahead... Just thought you changed your mind on the day because of your last post.
Brigett wants to know if ricks pups are going?
Karen wants to know what women are going cause Im so borrrrring she said...I told her if you read the same book for 25 years it gets boring but a new person reading a 25 year old book for the first time...well you get my drift.
Scott, changed my mind about the dingy carrier your right the gate isnt wide enough....
I have so much to do...ah Scot when you leaving fri? I have to get the dingy ready and I wont be there till around 6 am fri morning. and are you towing yours or going to carry it? Take me about an hour to launch and be ready. Do you want me to meet you at the slip when Im done?

Let me get this right...we will be staying at Cat harbor right? So when we anchor off the harbor we can be close to shore. If thats the case I will use my little outboard for the dingy. 1.5 horse. If we are going to stay farther out I want to bring the bigger engine for the dingy.15 horse. Having only stayed at Cat harbor once before a long time ago, and useing a mooring at that time Im not sure where we will anchor.
I guess it also will depend on who is bringing a dingy and what kind? and what power they will have? I know Scott has same size as me, 9-10 foot
with a 6 horse I think. Anyone else? Does anyone want to explore in the dingys? The back side of catalina is real pretty but a plaining dingy would
be a must for any long distance travel. Also count on getting wet if we do this. Or we can just use the Macs to explore and tow the dingys. Better for anything more than a couple miles.
Decision decisions.... Ill bring what ever everyone has, dont want to be the slowest dingy but dont care to be the fastest. If most are only going to have oars then Ill just bring the little motor or a whip to make Karen row faster.

Scott mentioned staying over in fourth of july cove, but I don't know if all of us can stay there so that would kind of be a bummer...if he could get there first and make sure all of us could get a mooring, then it would be alright.
Cat harbor is simple to deal with for macs...they let you anchor in about 3 feet of water very close to the dinghy dock. There are also moorings, or the regular anchorage, but the regular anchorage is a ways away from the dock.
Molly and I have the dinghy on the boat, but will just have oars and if we don't have to inflate it, all the better!
The weather is looking better. The rain shifted from the weekend out to Monday and Tuesday. Hopefully we will be able to pull this off!!!

Iam planning on launching early Friday w/ Mike and heading directly to the Isthmus to fuel the boat. I only mentioned staying at Fourth of July cove as its the closest to MDR and the only place that Ive stayed at before w/ Mike . Its also dinghy close to the restaurants, toilets and the fuel docks(33nm from MDR). There are 20-30 ?? moorings so avalibility wouldn't be a problem this time of year for the group. Cat harbor is approx.43nm from MDR and a 1/4 mile walk to the above mentioned facilities. However, if everyone is going to be at Cat harbor, I would then take our boat around early Saturday morning . I was wondering how, when and if , the rest of the group was going to fuel up?? I ploted some distances and its approx. 43nm from MDR to Cat harbor. 16nm from Isthmus to Cat harbor if your going to come back around to fuel up. Depending on how fast everyone is planning to get over there, you may need to fuel up before heading back.
Looks like its going to be a great weekend to go boating- see you there!
Mike, I was planning on towing the dinghy at 5-6mph to see what my fuel burn is prior to going to the Baja next month.

Going to miss this
I am sad to report that I cannot make this trip. Last Monday my Mother in law had a heart attack and Saturday she went to be with the Lord. She loved the ocean and wanted to be cremated and her ashes spread on the Pacific. I am happy and honored to be able to give her one last sail and fulfill her final wishes on a Mac.
Maybe next time guys, Tim
