Well folks, it looks like we are homeward bound. (For real, this time)
If all goes according to plan I should be home on leave cruising around the waters of W. Lake Superior in August! I've been unable to get on the net for several weeks due to our continuing mission here, and it looks like I've missed some great posts. My boat has been moved up to my parents home in Northern Michigan, and my step-dad can't wait to get it on the water. (My mother is a little hesitant to be on the maiden voyage.)
I think that if I can drive a tank, I should be able to drive a sailboat. I am going to miss the cannon, though....

Jared - Do you have sail-slugs on your mainsail? Halyards aft to the cockpit? If not, have your parents send me your mains'l and I'll install the slugs and send longer halyards.

Bill,
I'm not sure about the sail slugs or halyards led aft. I'm reasonably sure that it doesn't have either. I just purchased all new running rigging from ebay, and the company claims the halyards will be long enough to lead to the cockpit. I paid 195 bucks for all new lines (Main & Jib halyard, main and jib sheets, and an outhaul), I don't know if that's a good price or not, but it was the only place I found that sold a complete replacement running rigging specially made for the 26C. (Sort of important since I'm not there to measure the dang things.) I may take you up on the offer while I'm on leave. Thanks Bill.

I got two checks today, for $25.00 each, one from David Fuller ("Great Looper Dave" and his wife Sondra, and the other one from David's company, Pure Bioscience Recruiting LLC. Thank you. The running total is now $405.00 for Jared's fund.

I got a check today, the second one I've received from Barbara Boyle and Stephen Smith. This one was for $100.00, which brings the running total to $530.00.
I'll double that, So Jared now has $1,060 that he can use to buy stuff for his boat.
I hope he gets home in time to use it yet this summer.
Thanks again to everyone who contributed. - Bill

Woohoo! Thank you everyone, and an extra-big thank you to Bill for his hefty match, and for handling all the donations.
So, now the question becomes... Jared, what do you need for your boat?

Hey everyone! I have officially kicked the sand of Iraq from my boots and changed my desert fatigues for the green camo of Germany! We've been very busy preparing for our leave, so I haven't been able to keep up with the site. I am still amazed by the kindness of near strangers. Thank you all. In response to Mike, I am in need of a VHF radio & antenna, and a GPS. I'm sure there are a few other things I could use, but I'll have to see my boat to be sure. I hit the ground in Michigan tomorrow! Hope to hear from you all soon, and see you on the water!
