This may sound like a dumb question, but so many of you seem serious about wet capabilities I have to ask this question: why do you have water in the biges that needs vacuuming up? Can't you find and stop the leaks? Ventilate to stop condensation? I agree that water inside the boat is unacceptable unless fit for drinking or flushing, but how does it get there to begin with? I've never had that problem on a boat I owned, because if it started, I fixed the source. That seems less expensive and time consuming than getting a vac, stowing it, and using it repeatedly.

The multi-function mantra extends to this topic too. Earlier poster observed how a vac can double-duty for pumping inflatables, and I suppose a wet/dry vac has obvious dual-benefits even if the bilges are dry.

I saw a retrofit article (in Sailing?) where that owner had a DeWalt 18-volt package with a Vac. That tri-fecta would include drill motor and lantern.
(can't imagine carrying the recip or circ-saw, can you)?? :| But Ryobi's system-18v includes a jigsaw!
