In my situation I park the trailer on-base at NAS Jacksonville and the RV parking lot is only about .7 miles from the Marina. The speed limit on base is only 30 mph so I do not strap down just to go that distance.
But when I trailered the boat from Tampa to Jax I strapped the back end down. And I will strap the back end down for future long-distance trailering.
Hopefully I will get a slot in the dry storage lot at the Marina. Then I won't have to lower the mast.

P.S. Change of subject but when the trailer is disconnected from the vehicle if a person (me) was to climb up on the boat and go aft of the wheels would the boat tip back and touch the ground? I guess if I am there at the boat, my vehicle is there as well so I might as well hook it up before climbing on.
Another trailering question

Since you asked C130, I was going to let him answer, but...NiceAft wrote:I'm guessing that the NAS base you refer to is in Jacksonville FL, not the airbase in Jacksonville NC?
NAS Jacksonville, is Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, FL. The other Air Station you're speaking of is near, not in, Jacksonville, NC and is Marine Corp Air Station (MCAS) New River.
Depends on how much you weigh.C130 wrote:when the trailer is disconnected from the vehicle if a person (me) was to climb up on the boat and go aft of the wheels would the boat tip back and touch the ground?

Thanks Chip,
I know about New River. Several years ago I was visiting a friend of mine there when she had a retirement party. She was a captain in the Navy. She and her husband had a 42' Hunter that they kept in the marina at the base.
When c130 said Jacksonville, I just wanted to be certain which place he was speaking of. I should have realized that NC is far too north for him to go to on a regular basis.
Too much turkey must have dulled my brain.

Chip,
Thanks for the info. I ate a lot of turkey (and dressing, mashed potatoes, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie) last week but I still don't think I need to worry about 350lbs
.
And yes, I am sailing out of NAS Jacksonville in Florida on the St. John's River. Maybe I will get up to Jacksonville NC someday. Looking forward to trailering to different locations.

Mac Bump
I recently replaced an old steel trailer with a new galvanized one made by Venture. The new trailer has bunks on it with a plastic covering instead of carpet. It makes sliding the old aluminum boat on and off much easier than with carpet, (less drag). I'm interested in knowing if anyone out there has tried substituting this type of bunk covering for the carpet and if it will eliminate the need for the "Mac Bump" in order to get the 26M all the way forward for trailering. The plastic material is thickj like linoleum tile and they call it "teflon" all though I'm not really sure that's what it's made of. Thanks
