albion, now listen, whatever, your wife's name is Doreen... so don't be thinking about painting Mary Lou or Suzie on the sides. Really.
I'll tell you what happened. I was having a hard time deciding on a name for my new Mac. The words of a folk song sung by the Kingston Trio back in my college days echoed in the back of my mind. It originated with a Carl Sandburg collection that had to do with an old sponger that was wrecked and sunk at Governors Harbor in the Bahamas in 1900. The wreck of the John B. Lee Hays of the Weavers adapted a song, picked up by the Kingston Trio and made popular by the Beach Boys. The Sloop John B.
Point is, a suitable option is to name a boat after a person. I pasted Peggy C on the side of my sloop named after my good Mate.
This is what I initially intended and ended up doing. However, in the interim, the guy I ordered the letters from inadvertently sent me decals for Jenny C and my good Mate discovered where I’d hidden them under my monitor. I mean holy crap.
So, don’t be thinking of something like Mary Lou or Jennifer.

Yeah, better write it in blue. That way, as you approach the speed of light and you begin to approach the red-blue phase shift, that longer-wave blue color will still be able to be read for a little bit longer time.Tom F. wrote:Probably an exercise in futility to write the name of your boat on a blue hull 26M as it is too fast for anyone to accurately read as you pass by.

names
HURAH sites back up, thanks Heath........Well all you guys I think I will name the boat ALBION II. The reason being , after our home in London was bombed when I was a baby,we moved into a small home when I was 1 year old. It was called ALBION. I still remember as I got a wee bit older going back there. The name ALBION II will bring back fond child hood memories. Now its all gone and new homes have been built there. Thanks for all the suggestions, if I change my mind i'll let you know.

Im also working on names for my newly aquired Mac, heres a couple.
Another song lyric reference, I like the name "Rounder", as in to "get around" (common in old folk tunes), and Macs being rounder (hull) than most sailboats (and I becoming moreso that way everyday). I was also contemplating the fact that my Mac will probably always have more highway miles than sailing miles... "Trailer Trash" was suggested, but I couldnt name my boat that. "Flying Pig", hummm... and also "CRV" as in Sea RV. One of my favorite all time boat names, and since we had one named this years ago qualifies for the "II", "Alibi Too".

Well, don't feel bad, I'm getting close to 4 years of Mac ownership and there is still no name on my boat either. Call me picky I guess, just can't find anything that fits and the whole family likes. Our former keelboat was already named (Sundance) when we got it and no one really liked that name either. But we sold it before my wife made me rename it..
Its always a bit embarassing when hailing bridges or doing radio checks. I just call myself "Mac26".
Heck, its a good thing they make you pick your kids' names before you leave the hospital, otherwise, they might not be named yet either. In Greece though, you don't have to name a kid until s/he is baptized. My cousins took a whole year to name their daughter and for that whole year, they called her "little green bean"...
