Sorry guys, the book turned out to be 1994 edition. I did not realise it until I compared my copy to it and the size was wrong. I called and Minny said I return them. Unless you still want it, I will return Tuesday, March 1st.

Roy...I'll get you anything you'd like...but are you talking about the book? That was Bob that saw them at minnie's (a boating surplus store - kinda like a junk yard...if you can find what you want, it's real cheap. But good like finding what you want.). Anyway, I have an old (but I don't think real old) copy of the Fagan book. I bought it as an out of print book at amazon a couple years ago. don't think there is a current - in print version at all. Personally I'm not sure how much it matters since I don't think very much has changed over the years.

Well go figure, maybe the old ones are worth more! Makes no sense to me, bob said Minnys had the 1994 edition cheap, but took them back? Not sure why...too old?...you guys didn't want them?

I searched for "Cruising Guide to the Channel Islands" under books at amazon and 7 came up. The first three are around $30. One doesn't say the edition year and the others say 1980. Oddly enough the next two don't look an different from what I can see except they want almost $100 for them??? Hmmm.

If that's not bad enough, the last two are apparently older (one says 1974l, the other doesn't say) and fall into the collectable category (a local cruising guide is a collectible???). I'm not sure I understand, but with a price of $135-$160, I'm not sure I want to find out.

I'm not sure if minny's still has them, but if anyone would like I can find out. I think mine is on my boat which I will be at tonight. I'll lokk and see what the edition on it is.

Are you guys kidding me? The books at minny's were $3.00 and he took them back? or did he not end up doing that? In a few years it'll be a collectible!!! Anyway it looks like that was about a month ago so I'm not sure if they are still there. I know Bob is out of town until next week, does anyone want me to stop by and check? I can't today, but I can get over there tommarrow.

I decided to call and ask if they still had any of the Brian Fagan Cruising Guides. She said there were a couple boxes by the door at $2.95. She also said they have new hours and close at 5pm. I decided to drive the 10 miles now and call it lunch.

Maybe I should have been more specific or maybe I didn't understand what Bob saw. What they have are the Brian Fagan Cruising Guide - San Francisco to Ensenada. Looking inside it's the 1994 edition. They were new not used with a 24.95 list price. They wanted $2.95. It covers the channel islands, probably not as complete. I wanted one and bought three. Not sure why but if you want I put it next to the bimini (I think it's spelled like the island, but I'm not sure how that' spelled).

I'm not sure what the bracket size is but you can have mine. I decided to take them off and fill the holes so you can have them. I also decided I'll take you up on the trailer offer. I think. I haven't seen it in three years but I'm going out to look at it in a few weeks. If it looks like I can pull, I'll plan a time to bring it down. I'll bring the bimini then.

East Anacapa Island Last Weekend.

I occasionally have a 3-leg biz trip from SFO to DFW to SAN, then back home. This week's trip from San Diego to SFO was at 3 pm Wednesday in perfect weather. As I winged the friendly skies up the coast, I had the cat-bird's seat (window-A) for viewing the entire string of Channel Islands.

From 30,000 feet it looks like one could skip a stone from SB Island to Catalina. Next, you get to compare sizes of Catalina, San Clemente & SB with their nor'western sisters. Santa Cruz is one giant motha' island by comparison! The cruise from there to Santa Barbara Island will be the mid-point of the trip, and it's definitely the NAV-leg.

After the relative sizes of Islands, the other "most notable" from that perspective is that currents around southwestern Santa Cruz and Anacappa are clearly evident. Not sure of this, but I'm guessing the strange view was actually the increased size of swells. Anyhow, it was a picture-perfect day, just like udannlin's photo above ... I hope we find the same in July!

BTW, Dave, I'd love to have one of those Pacific Coast guides from Minney's!
