ok so i tied the anchor line off at the stancheon (sp) and i put out the mushroom not much better, i also left one rudder down had to keep the other up so we could use the ladder and i couldnt put the rudder all the way down afraid to drag on the bottom. the mushroom didnt really do much once the boat caused it to slacken up so i just dropped it straight down from the stern and let it drag back and forth slowed the boat certainly not as bad as before. I also took the boat out into open water was in some pretty big swells im sure we disappeared in a couple of them, good fun. While we were surfing the waves we happend on a large turtle surfing the same waves pretty cool. So i will try a second anchor as soon as i pick one up. with the anchor sail would you center your boom?

If you have a :macx: like me you dont worry about the boom because you attach riding sail to the backstay and tie the other end to the mast.

Tom,

If you have an :macx: , then do as Road Soldier does. If you have an :macm: , then
I have an anchor sail for my :macm:

I run a line from the tack to the mast. For the head of the sail I either use the boom lift line, or disconect the main from its halyard, and then use that line. For the clew, I attach a snap to it, and then run a line from one of the aft cleats, through the snap, and then to the other cleat.

The key to the success of an anchor sail is to have it as far aft as possible
Ray

PS: I did not include the picture this time because some people just do not recognize an M when they see one
