Guys like Sum and KMac bring you to the cold reality of your limitations...... :D :D

Woodworking is my nemesis...thoroughly enjoyable but boy, do I suck. One of my first book cases is still called "Pisa" by my kids..... I just finished butchering my Harpoon cockpit slats...by the time I was done all the trees had moved 50 yards further from my house .....

If only I could cut ways with wood the way I would with words..... :

Yep you are good with the words :) . I'd suggest that you might try doing less woodwork and move to metal. With a welder you can always add back to the metal to fix mistakes, not so true with the woodwork and you might want to also consider that doing the fabric work as it is kind of like the woodwork in that respect. I can attest to that with numerous pieces of partially sewn together fabric now laying around out in the shop.

Talking about Ruth...in about 8 days she gets the protective boot off the second foot that was operated on and I told her just this morning that it will be good to relinquish control of the sewing machine back to her next week. I just finished the full cockpit Bimini/Dodger enclosure for the Endeavour after working on it for almost 2 months. It was a lot bigger job than I anticipated.

Ruth will be working on a permanent cover for the Zodiac and also a sailpack/sail cover for the Endeavour while I go back to some metal fabrication making a mount for the 6 solar panels and also a frig/freezer for the boat,

Got all the interior out today, replacing all interior wood.

Why there is so little info on widow seals is beyond me.

Here's what I found: http://www.crlaurence.com/crlapps/showl ... 19783&Pom=

I think the 1/4" glass and panel should work, going to try to order it from a local glass shop.
Any one need some? Might get a better price if I buy in bulk.

Looks like it's going to be about $160.00-$170.00 for 50'. CRL # 10251
A roll should do 3, maybe 4 boats, so if 2 or 3 of you are interested let me know.

It should work on any hull with 1/4' thick hull and 1/4" glass. The plexi/lexan may need to be trimmed 1/8"

I'm not sure if I'm going to stick with the stock smoked/tinted plexi, or go with clear. May get a wild hair and get mirror tint :)

Well, I've had a busy winter and I'm running behind, but making progress

Made new divider wall from oak ply, half height.
Sanded, stained, and varnished hull/deck joint trim, mast support.
Made new interior compartment/port covers.
Painted above deck/hull joint, bow hatch, sliding companion hatch and v hatch.
Made new retainers/trim for sliding companionway and v-hatch.
Powder coated all the cleats that go one the deck.
Working on finishing second half of headliner tonight.

Hopefully by the end of the weekend glass will be back in and everything will be ready to put the headliners in and reattach all the deck fittings.

I still have a lot of little things to do, hopefully I can keep the momentum up.
The most time consuming projects left are extending the v-berth and making a new dinette table and cockpit support/winch cover.

That's just to get her on the water, it will probably be years before everything's the way I want it. (thanks for all the time consuming never ending project ideas Sumner!)

I also want to replace the keel bolt. I'm hoping I can do this on the trailer by supporting the keel and keeping it in place during the bolt replacement. Hopefully the glass around it looks ok.
There was some water between the liner and hull under the dinette seats and I think this is where it might have been coming from.
I've read you can use plumbers putty under and around the big rubber washers to help prevent leaks. IIRC, the same stuff you use to mount drains to a kitchen sink. Makes sense anyway.

Will try to post some pics before the end of the weekend.

Windows in! Everything on the forward deck is back on and sealed. 4200 fast cure is pita to work with.

Found someone to take me out on it in the spring too, which is a big relief.

First real day of sailing last Saturday. We did pretty well. It was our second time out on the boat, no major catastrophes.
Sailed 4 or 5 miles down river and back, took 6 hours even motor sailing about 2/3 of the way back. The winds were probably light enough for the genoa, but we just stuck with the jib

My boat did not come with a boom vang, I decided I needed one and ordered one today that will hopefully arrive by the weekend.
I'd like to convert to mid-boom mainsheet, am I going to need the vang if I do this? I am thinking I can use the the vang equipment for the mid-boom mainsheet, is this correct?
I have the stock mainsheet setup I believe, I don't think I was using it properly. It seems it worked better the first time we took the boat out, it had a lot of friction saturday, but worked good enough for my skill level.
I really want to clear up the back of the stern and I think a mid-boom setup would make the cockpit more comfortable.

I haven't gotten near as much done with the boat as I would have liked, but she's sailing.

Feel free to tell me all the things wrong in this picture:

She is blocking the flow of air to the main. I'm sure you can find someone willing to take her onto their boat so you can measure this accurately......

Well it's time to start sailing again... I wish, it's really time to do more work. Way behind where I wanted to be, work and other projects have bogged me down.

Replaced the keel cable, winch and bolt.

Original winch wasn't releasing load properly, it was slipping a few inches of cable at a time last coupe times I was out.
Got the zincd version of the original winch. Not sure what kind of cable was on it, so I replaced it with a stainless one from mcmaster. Hopefully my crimping holds.
The trailer winch has a new cable now courtesy of the new keel winch.

I was really scared about replacing the keel bolt, but it was the easiest and most simple single thing I've done to the boat.
Took the nut off the bolt and had my wife try to turn the bolt head while I slowly jacked up on the keel until it was loose.
I was relieved to find the bolt hole on the hull and keel looked great. I prepped the new bolt with grease and applied sealant to the rubber washers. Slide the old bolt out and slid the new on in. Done.
The old bolt looked fine as well, but i didn't want to pull it all the way out until the new was ready to slide right in. Just moving around inside the cabin was enough to throw the alignment off. I'm pretty certain there was a slight leak there too. We'll find out in a couple weeks.

I got a deal on a short shaft 10hp back in the fall. The 4hp I wasn't cutting it. Bad part is the 10hp is a short shaft. Got a garelick 71039 motor mount that is supposed to have 14.5" of travel. By my measurements it's actually around 13.75".
Going to setup the lowest setting on the mount to have the short shaft cave plate around 1" below the bottom of the boat. Got some measuring to do but this should allow use of a long shaft at the middle setting. I think I'm going to be able to just raise the motor without tilting to keep the prop out of the water while sailing which will be nice. The garelick mount is sprung to assist in motor lifting. With it attached to a motor laying back down on the floor it took every bit of my might to push the transom end of the mount to it's lowest setting. This will be nice too, my old mount had a block mounted to the side and a line to pull on, it was a bear.

Speaking of motors I picked up a 2hp the other day for my 12' amf puffer, it's a cute little thing. 25lbs!

Next on the list is making a new cockpit support/winch cover/electrical panel mount thing. I think I'm going to make it go all the way to the starboard wall to hide the lazerette area while keeping the port side open like the original design.
I'm also on the fence about replacing the forstay with a 5/32 wire, thoughts?

Pics to come. I really hope I can get a lot done and spend much more time on the boat this year.
