Hello Phillip,
I hope you got the ship with the extenders, otherwise she tends to shake, truth be told....(firefly joke for those unfamiliar with the show).
Renaming a boat has several steps:
1) Removal all traces of the old name from the vessel itself.
2) Remove all documents, pictures, plaques, ships papers which have the old name on them. No trace of the old name can be anywhere on the vessel.
3) On the water offer a libation to whatever sea god you prefer, and drop into the water a weighted fob with a biodegradable paper slip with the name of the boat written on it.
4) Let the sea god know that this ship may be removed from his/her books, and thank them for their protection of the previous vessel.
5) Drink the rest of the libation.
Once this is done you may rename the boat with the usual christening ceremony, but not before.
