Yes, we know all that, but why are we trying to tell ourselves how good our boats are, don't we already know that? Or is this thread for all those visitors who have yet to make the decision to purchase?

Maybe Vizwhiz is right, it's a matter of convincing the Admiral, if so, credit to you and I hope it works.

For some it is important to pat themselves on their back and affirm what a great choice they have made.

For others it is a matter of convincing the Admiral.

Newcomers will benefit as I did almost 8 years ago when I first stumbled on this site and learnt so much about these boats gaining from other Owners’ experience.

Others see it as an exercise to list the pros and cons.

Others just have time to sit and write instead of doing something else or having a drink at the bar.

Whatever your case may be, I think it is wise to just let everyone take what they need to take.

This thread hasp to be difficult for some of us sensitive types.

Well I have to say that I have come to like the Macgregor badmouthers for two reasons!

Before I bought one, I researched them and believed all the Mac bashers had to say, I got turned off them for another 6 months. Then later, after I realized that there just aint another boat that fills my families needs, I went back and started picking certain patterns in the badmouthing that made me realize there was more to it than I had been led to believe...

First time I sailed on one, I was astounded to see that they are actually not a bad sailboat!

So I bought one. For a bit, I got annoyed about the way I was suddenly treated in certain forums, and at some of the moronic comments I copped. I defended these boats a few times to people who came onto the mainstream forum I frequent asking about them and got fed crap by people who clearly didnt have a clue. Twice I actually met people who said they had almost bought Macs but were turned off by what they had heard and read on the internet.

Once I pulled into an anchorage and the boat nearest me actually gave me an evil look, hauled in his anchor and moved over to the other side of the anchorage!! Around then it dawned on me. THe Mac bash is actually a great thing! Here's why:

Firstly, There is no doubt that people who research Macs on the internet and ask about them in yacht clubs, are turned off them and this affects sales. However they still have consistently been the best selling trailer sailer in the world for more than a decade. My local dealer sells more than anywhere else in the world, more even than any US dealer! Imagine if the Mac bashers were not slowing sales a little, there would be zillions of these bloody things about and the value of our boats would drop at the rate the family car depreciates!! So when I used to stick up for them in forums, I was working for Roger, not me!!! THe Mac bashers are our friends. I love them My wife reckons whenever anyone asks about them in the mainstream forum I frequent, I should pipe up and say, Yes, I own one, and its all true, they are the most horrible boat in the world, dont buy one!

Secondly and perhaps most importantly, Have you noticed something, the guys in the forums who bang on about how horrible our boats are, are just about always the biggest dicks in those forums They are the guys who you would really not want to waste your time having a beer with in an anchorage no matter what boat you owned. The good thing is, with their rediculously immature minds, they are not likely to come near you in an anchorage if you pull up in a Mac as was evidenced to me in that anchorage - brilliant So the Mac means I get to relax in some quite anchorage and not have to put up with the dickheads of the world, which is exacly why I like going out there!

Owning a Mac at a marina is Childs play compared to spending Sturgis Bike Week on a Gold Wing! Try that sometime!

One year we gutted a large sit down jet ski and u bolted it to the trailer. Inside we removed everything, and steam cleaned it. Used it as a travel trailer behind our Wing. To top it off, we put a full sized stuffed gorilla on the jet ski and pulled it across two states, stayed the week, and drove back. Every national magazine photographed us, but not one published image, cause it was not a HD.

Every clique has a clubhouse. VW bus folks hang tight, as well as current models of the bug. It is just natural for groups to hang in their group. I do not see the Hunter people, or the Catilina people looking down on our beloved Macs, but I do see people tending to see, what it is they are doing, or driving, or boating. What would you expect to see at a Star Trek convention? Star Trek fans!

Can people come off as stupid in almost every situation regardless of circumstances? Spend time working in retail, and you will have that answer in no time flat.

People are often times clueless, but not clueless about Macs, just clueless.

Yes well the HD to Jap bike thing is certainly just as big here. Me personally, I'd happily ride a 50cc moped if I could get to see Sturgis on it

Sturgis story from about 2005 that will help you love your one of a kind Macs.

I was on a V8 motorcycle that I ride in town, while taking the Gold Wing into the mountains.

At a stop sign on the V8, people are crossing the street on the main strip bikes use as an endless loup around the downtown area. I notice this guy grinning at my motorcycle, and he has stopped walking, as he drinks in my bike. Pretty one of a kind, even for Sturgis.

The guy looks like I should know him. It hits me, He is the guy in the hair car salon posters you see in store fronts, malls, and in magazines for Paul Mitchel Products.

As our eyes meet, I reach up and pull on my hair around my ears, and shout PRELL over the extreme bike noises in downtown Sturgis. He grabs ahold of a huge smile, walks over to me and gives me a bear hug as he says in my ear, "Grow More Hair, You Will Use More Shampoo". Then he walks off after telling me I had a nice bike.

Years later I learn he is not an actor or model paid to be a pretty face, he owns the company, and hundreds more companies, and he is one of the richest billionaires in the history of the world.

Self made billionaire. He was once homeless, living out of his car. Poored several bottles of shampoo together into one, and walked into a salon and sold them a case of product not yet manufactured, except in his mind. The rest is history. He also owns Patrone Takeyla. Pardon the spelling, I don't drink.

Every single boat has its plus and minus points.

In the end I choose against the Mac not because the X or M are not great boats, but because I wanted to sail further offshore more often than not.

Every time I get to sail with my X or M buddies I always have the best time

To see people enjoying their boats is always a joy. One thing is for sure, the best attribute of a Mac is their owners, always enthuisiatic and in my experience never knock other people's choices of craft.

When my long distance sailing days are over, a MacGregor will be near the top of my list!

Macs are like AMWAY....
People are down on what they're not up on.

You have to understand them to appreciate them.
...and if they don't, so what!

You know, I'm getting very tired of ad-infinitum threads on this forum where folks are somehow challenged justify their purchase of a Mac.

I own my boat because I want to. Deal with it.

According to my wife we own one because it is BLUE.
