We're way ahead of you. As I noted earlier (link), that domain has already been purchased by the owner of this domain (macgregorsailors.com) and there is a plan in place to connect the two such that anyone visiting tattoosailors.com will be routed here seamlessly. We have also requested and been approved to use Tattoo's official name and logos as a part of this forum - they are very happy to have us be the forum-of-choice for Tattoo Yachts, as we have successfully been for MacGregor Yachts for many years, and we are pleased to be host to the many new Tattoo owners.

Work is in progress. Stay tuned. :)

I suspect there will be many at first, but hopefully folks will tire quickly of that foolishness.

"MacGregor" is obviously a Scottish name, and for those who do not know, "Tattoo" is so-named for the Scottish traditional celebration of the same name. From the wiki:
The word "Tattoo," is derived from "Doe den tap toe", or just "tap toe" ("toe" is pronounced "too"), the Dutch for "Last orders". Translated literally, it means: "close the (beer) tap". The term "Tap-toe" was first encountered by the British Army when stationed in Flanders during the War of the Austrian Succession.

The British adopted the practice and it became a signal, played by a regiment's Corps of Drums or Pipes and Drums each night to tavern owners to turn off the taps of their ale kegs so that the soldiers would retire to their billeted lodgings at a reasonable hour. With the establishment of modern barracks and full Military bands later in the 18th century, the term Tattoo was used to describe not only the last duty call of the day, but also a ceremonial form of evening entertainment performed by Military musicians.

Although the first Tattoo in Edinburgh, entitled "Something About a Soldier", took place at the Ross Bandstand at Princes Street Gardens in 1949, the first official Edinburgh Military Tattoo began in 1950 with just eight items in the programme. It drew some 6000 spectators seated in simple bench and scaffold structures around the north, south and east sides of the Edinburgh Castle esplanade. In 1952, the capacity of the stands was increased to accommodate a nightly audience of 7700, allowing 160,000 to watch live performances each year.
If you have never visited the Edinburgh Tattoo Festival you have missed out on an incredibly exciting, engaging and memorable show. I've seen it twice (1983 & 2011) and would happily go again and again. It's that good.

Good to hear. I shouldn't be surprised, since this is obviously a well-managed and very active site!
I have visited often, long before we ever bought our 26M, and even more now that we own one.
Thanks!!

BOAT wrote:What's the point of even having a raccoon stripe if it's not a stripe?? The stripe stops on the sides on both the top AND the bottom stripe! If your gonna do that just forget the whole stripe altogether - what's the point!?!

I can already see future customers breaking out the black spray paint to finish the raccoon stripes. It just looks unfinished without them and makes the cabin look 'boxy'.
Having never liked the raccoon stripes (or the inevitable fading of topside dark gelcoat) I prefer the new style. What I'd really like is an all-white hull. I don't mind the random windows look.

I guess raccoon stripes are a 70's thing - but like old Corvettes I like them. When Mine fade I will be painting them nice and shiny black all over again.

I saw someone here who painted the raccoon stripes out white. It looked really nice. My painting skillz are pretty weak, but it might be worth exploring. Then there is the blue hulled Mac owner who painted his white with some really cool features. Some people have talent.

There are Scottish Highland Games throughout the U,S. and Canada during the summer and fall. The MacGregor's choice of branding with the word "tattoo" representing this magnificent cultural festival and gathering of pipes and drums including the ancient games may be confused with body art. The general public may not understand.

Scots are used to this, fortunately.

I really do like the Raccoon Stripes and I totally get why Roger puts them on all his boats. I think it's really a 70's kind of California thing - (That was the real hey day of California - the 70's) it's been in decline here ever since.

Still, now that the boat is going to use a Scot's name and be in a different state where there are some swamp people and Cajun stuff - I think they should change the Raccoon stripes to a highland kilt PLAID pattern.

What's up with those stern rails? They're really high, and I can't figure out what the use of them would be. It's not like you could mount a stern rail seat there. There's also a lifeline going across between them, exaclty where my head has to go when entering the boat from the stern.

I'd have a stern rail on three legs, ready for an optional seat and capable of taking the lifeline loading without the cross wire.
