We just replaced the whole thing and made a new one to match the sarca, it wasn't hard but not as easy as yours but a fair bit cheaper I would imagine.
As for the bending or expectation just take the line out of the roller and tie to the cleat at least thats what I do as it saves any stress problem and the worry of fraying on the roller edges.
