I will have to agree that in a short time, Rodger will make an X/M morph and in this new boat's sales literature, he will knock the "improvements" of the M, like he does on every other new model and we will all post them here and laugh!

bet it is more likely to be called a MX than an XM. Has an automotive or motorcyle sounding ring to it. Moe already has the design specs figured out, at least to my liking. Wouldn't we all like to be asked to help design the new boat, and decide on its features.

Cowlifornica is limiting Roger to just a couple of boats a day and there is a waiting list, i heard.
I think it would make sense for his business to expand to an added location in maybe Savannah, Ga where he could produce NEW X-boats from the molds and tools he has, or add tools and jigs re-set to the old specs. Probably could sell the new X boats as fast as he could turn them out, as well as the M version from San Diego, and still with a waiting list for both boats. bet that would amaze us ... NEW X-boats....
could use a few M thingys in them too....

Interesting discussion - I'm new to this site, but I just wanted to add my 2 cents. My wife and I bought our newzd 26X last fall from someone who barely used it. We decided on the X after shopping around and checking out other boats including the new M. One of the selling points was the head layout and location. Others were space and general layout. I do want to say that this forum has been very helpful and informative. OK, I'm done... consider my 2 cents added.

That's assuming you don't have a large cooler parked on the only space MacGregor provides for one on the M. And on '05 models, it's assuming you haven't had the galley slid back and have to go through the ritual of moving it.

The reality is that the head is pretty much in one's peripheral vision when entering the X, while the head and the daggerboard trunk are smack in the center of it when entering the M. At least if they have to use it when they come aboard, they don't have to squeeze past other cabin occupants, not to mention fold down the table in an '03-'04 model.

I'll admit the limo style interior of the '03-'04 models would be GREAT if you use the boat as a dockside party barge.

Moe has done a pretty good job of explaining why he likes his X better, and he makes several good points. He will never convince me that I chose wrong, just like I could never convince him...

Moe just plain doesn't like the M and he's sometimes less than tactful in explaining why...

I'm sure even the most dedicated fan can point to one or two things he/she likes about the . Likewise, I'm sure the most dedicated fan can point to one or two things he/she likes about the .

The bottom line is, and always will be, personal preference. You will buy one over the other because FOR YOU that boat had more (or bigger) +s than -s...

For some, the biggest factor may be cost. For others, the biggest factor may be new v. used. Neither of these has much to do with layouts or sailing characteristics...

We all chose why we did for a reason. Lets not beat each other up over it.

Ok, actually got a good laugh on Moe's last point about "thats my point, you don't have to crawl over anyone with an X", and I own the same 04M.

Regarding the ice chest. I just don't like its placement at all. Imterestingly enough, at first I did like it, but after about 35 days on the boat in less than one year (by my log book), I have grown to dislike it.

Why: It all comes down to sleeping agangements. My son is up in the V-berth and alone, because his nick name is "the flopper". He moves more during the night then some of the "marina queen" boats of lore! my daughter sleeps with either my wife or me in the aft bunk and either my wife or I sleep on the port seat. So having to move the icechest out at night is a PITA, and leaving it there limits access and get me woken up at night for the "girls" to go pee!

Solution: I removed the seat cussion from the port seat across from the head and now locate my ice chest there. It also gives me some additional storage and helps ballance the boat better. From the below photo, you can see the cussion removed and my soon to be navy seal son:

I mounted a 12vdc fridge, where you store your cooler. That is the best place for that sort of stuff, as nobody really sits there due to the raised floor and the daggerboard/head right across the way, making for little leg room.

It seems you just bought your new '04-M ?? Congrats. It took me about a year from first looking at the 26X ... to actually choosing options and taking delivery, August '99 ... how long were you shopping?
