thanks, opie, I have finally (after 2 years after starting this thread) found my overheat alarm. there is indeed one. in between spark plugs on port side. The problem is that my overheat alarm does not seem to work properly. the buzzer works when I ground the signal wire but I think bimetal switch is faulty. I had been looking for it at boats.net in spare parts so far without any luck. I also confirm you are right about that water indicator fitting, I did replace it last year with a new larger bore and it never clogs now. There is a new problem however, at low rpm the water tends to flow out of the fitting and along the motor wall, so that you cannot see it. Scared me a few times, but it is not a big problem, once you rev up it usually starts flowing normally. I am pretty sure my impeller is in a good shape as I had replaced it just last year and none of the intake grills are clogged to badly, so the water is flowing allright, it is just the hole in the fitting is too large for it to reliably form a stream.

- Honda 50 (BF50A) outboard does have an overtemp alarm and indicator light. (See page 11 of manual to see where mine is..)

- Honda increased the size of the engine water indicator fitting about 2005 or so (this fitting is not the one on the cowling). (See old threads for details.) This new fitting should be installed in all Honda 50's since the original fitting would clog up at the smallest piece of grit.

I stand corrected, the honor of starting this thread in 2005 does not belong to me. I merely contributed when the same problem with overheating happened to me. Now, I am having a new problem which may be related, so.. I decided to start a new thread specifically on electrical topic. This way I get to be a "thread starter" :) too.

I
iMy HOnda 50 overheat sensor worked once. IN my drieway on dry land I was warming up the engine to winerize and change the OIIL using a large garbage can in my full of water.

at fast idle I went in the house to get some tools, received a phone call and about 20 minutes later my sons informed me th boat was beeping. the water in the can was steming just a little, and was pretty warm. I let it cool for a while and it started right up

Link Here for Honda 50hp owner's manual.
The old link from 2009 was changed by Honda so here is the new link for the manual.

By the way, John, I bought my MacX and got involved with sailing all because of reading posts here from Chip Hines. As you know he has not been on line here for quite a while. I went to the trouble to find him a month or two ago and he informed me that he is patiently waiting for retirement before getting back to sailing. I told him I was retired, but due to grandkids, travel, charity, etc, I seem to have less time now than when working........
