boat name

Dimitri-2000X-Tampa wrote:Well, don't feel bad, I'm getting close to 4 years of Mac ownership and there is still no name on my boat either. Call me picky I guess, just can't find anything that fits and the whole family likes. Our former keelboat was already named (Sundance) when we got it and no one really liked that name either. But we sold it before my wife made me rename it.. :D

Its always a bit embarassing when hailing bridges or doing radio checks. I just call myself "Mac26".

Heck, its a good thing they make you pick your kids' names before you leave the hospital, otherwise, they might not be named yet either. In Greece though, you don't have to name a kid until s/he is baptized. My cousins took a whole year to name their daughter and for that whole year, they called her "little green bean"...
Dimitri I have a good name for your X As you live in TAMPA and own an X. How about TAMPA-X OR ..... . Only joking.

boat name

Name that preferably...
has only one possible spelling,
is easily pronounced,
is easily understood by vhf listener,
is short, for quick alpha, bravo, charlie style spelling into the vhf and printing in big visible letters on the boat,
is uncommon,
can be said in polite company (won't offend the FCC), and
maybe has some memorable descriptive aspect or meaning or two e.g.
1.RAGS ....My first cruising boat, a much used Venture 17 with somewhat tired sails. Also, a faded green hull (Ron's Old Green Sailboat),and
2.ROCAVAL....Our present X.....Acronym for ROn, CArmen and VALentinesday, our anniversary. Also, in Spanish, ROCA is rock (or loosely stone) and CAVAL is horse, thus loosely stone horse; stone horses tho having many endearing qualities are not the fastest, and the same can sometimes be said of a Mac X under sail.
Have fun naming the boat.

Catigale (pronounced KATY GALE) is an amalgam of

Caitlin and Abigail of course, my 9 year old FIrst Leftenants.

The 45 foot Morgan we will retire on in 15 years will be called

Abilynne of course

I think that "Beating the Doldrums" would be a great name for a motor sailor!

A neighboring Marina has a strangely named boat: "TURTLE" That either means its slow, will be eventually upside down, or its really, really, really cramped inside... :|

How about "TURTLE" written upside down?

Good idea: Our 26X is JEDARO named after our three (adult) children

JEnniferDAvidRObert--unique, kids liked it, easy to say and understand on VHF in case of emergency. No one else has a clue to the name.
We had thought of names such as Schools Out etc but this was a great compromise.

BOAT NAME

Post by albion »

OK folks. As my original post brought many replies I have decided to go with my first thought ALBION II. Thanks for all the suggestions. Some got off track a bit though, after I had given info about myself. No problem. I hope it inspired others to pick a name for their boat. Thanks once again. George AKA albion.

Yes, I think ALBINO II is a good name, since it has a white hull.

I like the personal touch too. What did you do for a living? What other things are important in your life? I am a veterinary surgeon. I named my boat "Incision". I thought of it kind of like a bigger personlized liscence plate!
