I had a 26X since aug 1999, sold it last year to get a26 M, will come in April. Loved the X, the M looks even better - in my opinion!

Congrats on the new "M" :!:
Yep. I think the "M" is a nice looking boat, with a better appearance than the "X" (just my opinion too). But, Im quite content with my "X" which meets our family needs perfectly--so far. Ive always admired the appearance of the "M"

Louis I agree its a OWN what you like . . .X or M if she makes you happy that is what counts, most of all!

What a storm over nothing, it all comes down to personal preferences and usage but where's the logic in making stuff up just to make yourself feel superior or to justify your own choice unfairly.
People come on here for fair dinkum advice and comeraderie but unless you have personal experience with both boats it would be hard to work out the fact from BS, so what hope has a newbie got?
Everything is a compromise but there was no way I could buy an X as the wife wouldn't sleep in the aft berth, end of story but I prefer many of the X features, I have a 2006 M and love it.
BTW I am 62 and have nil trouble accessing the transom and M's don't roll when beached properly but have seen both X and M's that have if a little care is not taken.
Both boats can be made to fit ANY usage except possibly bluewater better than almost any other boat available without breaking the bank or buying a truck to pull them.
Would I trade back to an X, only if the wife definitely decides not to come away anymore and I could pick up an X so much cheaper with the same "extras" as my M but it is probably academic, as my knees only have the maximum of two years "hopefully" and then will be selling to travel in a bit more traditional manner.
The boating will then be confined to fishing and perhaps a smaller TS locally as I am getting hooked on this rag and stick caper.
Would love to have a real sailboat and circumnavigate Aust but not alone so thats just not going to happen till then the :macm: is without doubt the best choice FOR ME.

boblee - you nailed it!
kmclemore - not really, still think either X or M are the best boats for my lifestyle and the way to go. i have unlimited access to a 1 year old powerboat (my son next door) - do I like it? yes, to go waterskiing for an hour or so twice a year , thats it. Both macgregors are terrific boats, slightly different....

Eric3 : I can fit a generator under mine as well ,but I wouldn't run it there for numerous reasons . Your reason is good one btw. FIRE!
Also Your for sure one of the few who has that fuel line set up.
I am interested though, do your tanks have the quick disconnects at the 3/way valve so you can still easily and quickly remove the tanks?

Note that Tahoe Jack resolved the exhaust problem by turning it aft and routing it over the transom.

Easier access is a point well-taken. However, I'd be surprised to find less noise by lashing the genset on the bow ... how's that true??

Nowhere near the cabin entrance??
Eric3 then you haul gas to the boat ?
Your one of those lucky fellows who's living on the water not a slip with rules made by others..... maybe someday I will be able to say the same...
Right now those are running about $1,000,000.00 _+ around here.
