Re: MMOR V Ontario Canada Mac Rendezvous
Just a word to the wise none of the marina's in the narrows will allow u to lower or raise ur mast @ their docks or slips for liability reasons even if u buy fuel from them !
So u have to go into the narrows to lower ur mast I done this one time with my
it was not a pleasant adventure as with all those 35-45ft stink potters coming into & exiting the narrows @ 20 knots + they do not even slow down to the posted 12mp/h until they r right on top of it so this creates 3-4ft swells
, it might not be an issue during the week with less traffic though & my
is a lot heavier than my
was so less & slower pitching , with my new mast crutch extension I'm hoping it will be easier to lower the mast on the water as I will no longer have to take down my full enclosure or bimini first , but still have to pin three furlers on the bowsprit & a forth on the deck
Barrie we should be able to draft up together on the wall if space is tight same with Lagoon City but I think we should be ok during the week days , Orrilla city marina is a very busy one on wk-ends so u would most likely have to book ahead to get a slip they used to have a city bus run through town & then back to the marina for the boaters to do their shopping do not know if they still do that , L Couchiching is a very shallow lake lots of rocky shoals to watch for not the best for sailing if there is lots of traffic but would be nice for a slow cruise & see the sights

Re: MMOR V Ontario Canada Mac Rendezvous
Lagoon City is also nice to anchor off the beaches overnight , weather prevailing the hotel restaurant was great for breakfast & dinners very good meals Geoff & I ate there last yr canada day long wk-end three days in a row I believe, they have a bar their also so u can have a glass of wine or a beer with ur dinner then walk back to the boat for cocktails later on for a night cap !
The beaches r not clothing optional as they were on the T.O Islands so u'll have to keep ur shorts on !
just saying so u can leave ur camera on the boat

I have to rely on the experience and good sense of those who know that lake to make suggestions and plan.
And John, based on what I saw last year, the camera most definitely would not be coming out of its bag, unless it wasn't a 'clothing-optional' beach.

Re: MMOR V Ontario Canada Mac Rendezvous
I'm readying SeaSaw for a cruise up the Trent Severn Waterway at end of July.
Starting in Trenton. Haven't decided if I'm going to do a full-one-way trip, or go halfway up-canal then back again. It all depends on whether I can dupe someone into driving my trailer around the country...

There's always spending the night on the hook, of course, in the event there aren't any slips or wall space available at some point. Gotta bring my little rubber raft.beene wrote:If we are going to stay at any one of the many marinas in Lake Simcoe or Kempenfelt Bay, we need to make bookings very soon!
I am not worried though, worst case, everything is all booked up and we make due with the free spots and other options.

Re: MMOR V Ontario Canada Mac Rendezvous
As I've already explained to Geoff, there's very little chance that we'll be in a position to trailer our boat up to Simcoe for this year's MMOR starting on the 11th. Our oldest daughter will be flying in from Bangkok on the 8th (she's a resident there) to stay with us and attend her kid sisters wedding later. Given that disappointment, we're still hoping to scoot up solo for a day and make a rendezvous and join everyone for an evening meal somewhere. That could still get scuttled if an offer on the house comes in, but we're keeping our fingers doubly crossed!
Soooo... it'd be good if an action plan materialized fairly soon.

At $32.50 a night, it's a bargain, too.
Any other agenda items yet?

Re: MMOR V Ontario Canada Mac Rendezvous
Slip reserved. No money needed at this time.
And she guessed (correctly) that I was with the MMOR group. She was very nice, even after I told her I was coming from the US.
Anyone planning on being there should probably reserve at least the weekend as early as possible, before slips run out. Extra days at either end I rather doubt would be a problem. Ramp closes at 8:00 pm, but I may try to get there earlier on Thursday so I don't have to travel across the border on a Friday.

I also have a slip booked. Never had a chance to be on Lake Simcoe on the Mac yet so looking forward to the experience.

If you're crossing at Buffalo, we've got your back for an over-nighter before heading further north. No snoring!Tomfoolery wrote: Ramp closes at 8:00 pm, but I may try to get there earlier on Thursday so I don't have to travel across the border on a Friday.
