Kids on shore? What about the big kid at the helm?! :P I had a party cove full of boats cheering and honking when I mock attacked three rafted up sailboats while under full sail--taunting them and firing my cannon as fast as I could reload (10 gauge blanks)! :D

If my admiral saw this post, she'd be palm slapping her forehead knowing that I...with a penchant for finding any excuse to fire off my boat's signal cannon...am already thinking, "we have a 4th of July sail and THAT firework rocket motor idea would be AWESOME!!!" 8) :D hmmmm something involving smoke bombs, fountains and roman candles. :P

Wonder if I could do it without damaging my boat? heck new PVC pipes are cheap! :D

Yeah Doug there's something about explosions... :D

Every year we enter a cardboard boat race at a local club (carries 2 kids, 2 adults- to use the term loosely) next year will be our fourth year using the same boat -different paint, adornment and name! They're a lot of time and work, and I like to recycle as much as I can 8) .

We use a PVC cannon that uses a CO2 cartridge to fire Rice Crispies into the air. It's a hit with the kids every time, (and the fish probably like it too) :| .

Those Cardboard boat races look fun! Great idea with the Rice Krispies! I'd think the fish would love it!

Hmmm... it's taking a lot of will power to keep from saying, "Challenge, Accepted." :D

Hang a 10# aluminum bottle off the stern rail with or without an enclosure. Note: Use only U.S.C.G.approved gas hose with approved gas connections NOT HOSE CLAMPS and you will be fine for several weeks of fuel.
