they r adjustable so u can load them for light or hard release depending on ur sailing water,s I,ve never had mine let go but I usually sail deeper waters , if u notice the link I posted I see there is now an up-grade kit avail for replacing the adjuster cam so not sure if that,s an up-grade for an issue with the older ones or just an improvement for the product !!
I found out about this mod from other,s on this site who had done this mod before me , so the guy,s who done this mod before me can maybe chip in !1

J, Even at the lightest loading, it was too much so I modified mine by sanding away a bit of the sides.

It still flew open with surprising force

It may be worth fitting some kind of a pad where it will hit the boat...

Nasty :?

Considering the very light retention required I think I'll stick with the "Loop the rope through the cleat" idea :)
