BB, I can't imagine the angle allowed for a gybing board is signifigant, but I rather like your notion of wrapping the top of the board (how much I wonder? 12-18"?) with a section of innertube, and then perhaps even folding it over a roll of closed foam rod to snug it up. the advantage would be less wear, reduced noise, and less drag from the filled space surrounding the trunk? One thing I've learned from shipping over the years is that to reduce wear you have to make things a lot harder, or a lot softer. take your pick?
