I can see now that I needed to go. if just to have an X represented. It looks and sounds like a great time for all. I will be doing a makeup trip Sometime in April, maybe 7-8 & 9, if anybody is interested.

It really was a great trip. when we crossed Friday Scott wanted to check milage for his upcoming trip to Sea of Cortez. So we did 8-10 mph crossing. Hour and half left to go on the GPS we decided to sail. And what a sail. Pulling dingys we were pushing 8mph most of the way the wind was steady and firm. one of the best sails yet. As we were going over a day early we decided to stay on the front side of the Island and walk over to Cat harbor and see the conditions. We didnt like what we saw so we stayed at cherry cove the rest of the week end. At least three days are needed to go to the Island as you dont even start to relax untill day two.

When Rick and molly showed up on Sat I offered to take rick and his two pups to the beach in my dingy, Well 80 pound pups, The same beach I was taking Bridgett to do her thing. When I took Bridgete There was only a slight swell and no breakers so we had it down pat I rowed over to the beach let a gentle swell push me in, nose of the dingy touches the beach Brigette jumps out I row back out till shes done then same thing getting her back she jumps in as I row out. Ricks pups didnt know the procedure so when we hit the beach that now had breakers the dogs said we were nuts and they werent getting out of the dingy needles to say rick and I got soaked with 52 degree water. The dogs stayed dry and had a grin from ear to ear. I got back to my boat and started to soak up the water out if the dingy when Scott offered to lend me his trusty little manual bilge pump
That thing was great (bought one as soon as we got back).

A large Sailboat moored right next to me, And was bitching about my boat geting to close to his as the gentle swells puched us together. Close maybe 5 feet apart. Any way the guy was a little cocky and rude I thought but I rowed over to my boat and changed the mooring line to the other side of my boat as the guy requested. The nerve of the guy I thought and decided to ask him the obvious to me, Why dont you moore
on one of the 50 open moorings around us instead of right next to me?
Before I had the last word out of my mouth I knew the answer and was right. HE OWNED THE MOORING...... Well it turned out the guy and his wife were very nice people and we got along great till the next day when they left.

Trying to reach all the other Macs before they went over to Cat harbor
but couldnt. But they were in some good weather Sat and sun. so they were fine. 8 boats went and coming back we sailed from about the half way point. Macs were flying back from the Island passing us. What a sight
one mac after another zoom zoom zoom. Radios cracking from one boat Im out of oil, then another call Im out of gas, Then trying to find them
and pick them up on the way in. What fun.

I really missed being with Mark and phil, the others I didnt know besides Inmon so next time we go we need to plan a day evening at the beach and BBQ watch the sunset together. Toss down a couple buf. milks.

My new dingy was great its 9.5 feet and lots of room. The motor that I have for it was a 20 year old force 15 hp two stroke. It sat in my uncles garage for 19 years not used much at all. I got it from him and changed the water pump and plugs and the thing fired right up. slapped it on the dingy towed it over to the Island. But as I jumped into it at the island It fired right up I took off it ran sluggish and went burrrrrrrrrrrrrr and died on me. I rowed back to the Mac and Scott offered to tow me to the dingy dock when ever I wanted, But being a half mile from the dock I didnt want to not have a motor the whole weekend. Out came the screw driver rusted wrench and whatever other junk tools I brought and pulled the carb. off. The bowl was full of a powder like gunk. cleaned it out and the rest of the weekend flew around like a brand new motor. I mean flew that combination is way too much power. So ideal motor I think would be a 5 hp The only problem is a 5 hp weighs as much as my 15. So staying off the throttle on the 15 keeps it all in line.

The best word to discribe this trip for me was relax It was very nice
and good company too.
If we all only had 5 days a week to do stuff like this and had to work two
would be great. Lifes to short and I was on my way back I was thinking about the next trip soon.....

Hey aya, we missed sailing with you too. I brought my fuel carrier - too bad you didn't get to see it. I used our kid's wagon, minus the stake-bed wood sides, and it worked great carrying the heavy 5-gal tank. Only it was loud on the dirt road. So next time maybe I'll put some pneumatic off-road-type tires on it, which I'll find on my spare time. Of note- the gas pump / tourist center at Two Harbors closes at 4:30 pm on weekends and opens at 8:00 am.

And I was the only one of 5 boats with a working dingy, so I got to ferry everyone to-from the dock. Good thing that Macs can anchor in real close. Thanks for helping out Margie and Aurelio on their new boat when they ran out of gas. Aren't they nice?

On Saturday I was finally able to re-prop (3 x 12 x 11 pitch), so now I should be able to keep up with you guys under power. And I finally got a tachometer.

Hey, I was in Arkansas and Mississippi Thursday and Friday for business and those tornadoes missed me. Gas was $2.45 / gallon!

Hey, I finally had enough time to figure out how to paste the pics from the Photobucket site! My favorite is the first one - count the Macs! We should have played "Flight of the Valkries" on the PA system!

We managed to have a great time, despite the wind / spray factor on the last part of the crossing. Note: Full foul-weather gear needs to include shoe-covers (spats?) or something to keep your feet dry.

My boat was the slowest as I have not yet been able to re-prop and with my 3 x 12 1/2 x 10 pitch I could only do 12-13 knots loaded. But any faster with the prevailing wind & swells made it too wet anyway.

Out of the 10 boats that were to go, Tim could not make it, someone else with an E-tech had an "oiling problem" in the MDR harbor and had to cancel, and 3 boats (scott vos, Jetta01, and aya16) went to Cherry Cove on the EASY side of the island instead of Catalina Harbor on the back side. Yeah, and saved 10 gallons of gas too. But most of us met up for dinner at the very nice $$ restaurant at Twin Harbors and had a good time. Sailfish & family and scott & Marlo cocooned in their boats instead.

Aurelio's boat ran out of gas off of Manhattan Beach and so sailed the last leg; Definite Addiction began sailing out of Palos Verdes, as the closer we got to shore, the more wind that there was. Just the opposite of the day before . . .

Thanks everybody for going, it was a memorable trip. Next time it will be at least a 3-day. Hope to see you all in May!

Nice pictures, Mark.

OFF TOPIC (while borrowing one):

I noted your hull colors are "attractively" alternating~! FWIW, in an exposed anchorage, or if storm or swell comes thru, these five sets of spreaders could clash. Alternating the raft with adjacent hulls floating bow-to-stern (in addition of course, white vs. blue) can help to avoid it.

The one night I rafted w/another 26X at Lake Berryessa, we rafted bow-to-stern by happenstance. (I dropped my main bow anchor at cove-center, and he rowed his bow anchor to the shoreline.) It does impede conversation, solved as we spent some evening time sitting on the bow. But the raft was lucky, as the wind came up to about 30 overnight. We were up on deck to check on the anchor, and noticed that the two masts were convenienly offset.
