I was looking back to try and figure out where I had posted stern mounting - then I realised it was the ballast location that didnt make it clear..sorry.

that front shelf is a pretty good spot though - sort of a pain to store anything there, keeps the weight forward, and pretty easy to put in a deck fill without gouging up your boat. Im just going to fill mine from below decks on this modification

I installed 2 in my 01 X, both on the starboard side near the centre line, both from Vetus. We get NO plastic taste from them at all. And I also have one left over from this project, a VEE shape for mounting in the bow of either the X or M. It is also a Vetus, and I would let it go for $90 as well.
