Thanks for brining back some memories.

My sister used to have a 1964 red, Rambler American convertible. Slowest car on the road, but cool to be in.

Okay, here is the offer currently on the table for a re re repower with a new E-tec:
Yes, I can give you more for your trade in’s. I’ll give you another $ 500 more.

You also mentioned maybe going to the I-Con pro gauges. There is a $ 450 charge for that
gauge package, but it is worth over $ 2,000. There also may be some items in the package
that you don’t want, like the speedometer ( $ 260.00) which I can credit back.

I think a 150 HP would be too much for your bracket. Below I have priced out a few
Different engines.

In Stock:
2015 Evinrude E-Tec 90 HP HO V-4, 20” $ 9,190.00
2014 Evinrude E-Tec 115 HPV-4, 20” $ 9,190.00

Have to order:
2015 Evinrude E-Tec 135 HP, 20” $ 11,300.00
2015 Evinrude E-Tec 150 HP 20” $ 11,900.00

I have attached a copy of a proposal with a V-4 90 HO or 115 V-4 with the I- Con Pro
Gauges and returning the speedometer, coming to $ ,529.67.

The price of the original proposal would go down to $ 4,127.75.
So my trade in value of 2 90HPs would be $6800.

The V6's are too much $$$

What do u guys think price wise. What should I negotiate for?

You just might be able to sell the two 90HP motors privately for more. Price of the new motor looks pretty good.

I sold a 2000 Honda BF50 for $2500 for the asking price on the same day that I posted it, and it wasn't "peeing" too well. Shouldn't be hard to get 4 to 5k each if they are in good shape?

Can't advise whether to do it or not, but I still suspect that the 115 will only get a couple of mph more, assuming that your current 90 really is output-ing 90 HP. Unless that extra 25HP is enough to overcome some unkown geometrical threshold, I don't think it will change much. The square of the speed formula says + 13% of current speed.

Now, if you could sell the two motors privately for $10k combined, then the price difference might just be worth it. Hard to justify 4K for what might only be a couple of mph in my opinion. Post some adds and see what happens.

Gazmn, I just had a look through your photobucket to show one of my sons some of your boat photos: he likes looking at photos of the same boat as ours...just FYI posting the link gives everyone access to your family photos too...

On the Ollie Gray album I noticed you have some sort of rubber or plastic piece attached around your waterline: looks cool but I wonder what effect it could be having if it's dragging in the passing water when in powering attitude?

Thanks for reply, Starscream.
Re: photob, I'll have to work on locking that down. I'll probably leave :macx: file open but move family & friends to a locked file.

Re: Private sale, I'm up in the air. 1- on Ebay there are already 5 90HP E-tecs for sale. From $5200 -7950, & this is at the end of the season. I'd either have to undercut them all or hold out. It's probably a waiting game even @ 5k.

2- I'd have to go on consignment. A-for pos warantee if installed by my mechanic & B- freight shipping from a business. Guessing it would cost ~10% of sale.

The plastic piece around waterline is called a spray rail look at my mods. It helps to give a drier ride at speed. Interestngly, the Mac member who had it first has an Etec V4 & is Very satisfied with it's power.

So taking the trade in value costs ~ 2k, but I dont have to deal with deals falling through & freight issues. Also I won't have to pay ~$500 in sales tax & roughly $600 in Ebay & Paypal costs. It's a net cost of $1000.

What I would like to do is get some more money for trade in value. Question is how do I get it? & who has a crystal ball to see if it's worth waiting for next seasons sales incentives from Evinrude :?

Sell private party and in the Spring, when everyone is getting their boat out and realizing that they need new power. Winter is an excellent time to buy a motor and a terrible time to sell one, so if you can afford the holding cost, buy now and sell later.

My MacGregor is for sale right now and is priced pretty high, but I'm going to hold throughout the winter until May before I reprice. If I can sell it during "Spring Fever" without lowering the price, I'll make a lot more than the holding costs between now and then.

Here's another trick I use: Tell the commissioned salespeople at outboard stores that you have two motors for sale, and you'll pay their commission if they send you a buyer. It's a cheap way to get people re-directed to you who come looking for new power that they can't afford. Works like a charm.

I am sure you could easily get $4,500 a piece in private sales, and they would go fast at that price. Try it before you trade in!

If I had that option when I was repowering, I would have bought one off you for that price in a second. There were no used 90's anywhere to be found when I pulled the trigger. Maybe someone on this site would be interested?

Craigslist? You could even try Kijiji.com, the free Canadian site, since a 90HP at that price might just convince someone to drive down to get it.
