End boom sheeting

I really don't like the end boom sheeting on my V25. What are my options? Seems like adding a traveler and mid boom connection would give me some additional control. I am concerned about the obstruction to the cabin and the hatchway. Has anyone changed there stock mainsheet layout?

I have not done it but have seen it done on other 25s. I really don't think the obstruction is anything you concern yourself with, as very rarely will the sheet be centered centered on the traveler track. I am no expert--obviously--but the only time it might be centered, and thus obstructive to any significant degree, would be when close hauled into the wind. Another thing to think about is how often you or anyone goes below when actually sailing. For me, since I am usually single handing it, almost never. So I say if you want it, then do it and don't worry about the obstruction. Doing so will allow you to install a bimini too, if you're into being out of the sun.

Now to be clear, I am not thinking that you would be installing it on the cabin top, but rather in the cockpit, butted up against the aft cabin bulkhead, from one seat across the cockpit well to the other, running from backrest to backrest. I am sure there is a mod on here somewhere with just exactly this. Check it out.

I have a V-24 with a traveler mounted just behind the compaioinway. The traveler is mounted on a board that sits across the cockpit and is secured by the vertical wall of the footwell. Inside the boat are support backing plates for the mount

Do you have any details? Did you do the mod or the PO? Pictures would help.
If you did the mod what kind of performance change did you experience?
I learned to sail on a FJ that had mid-boom mainsheet and it had a traveler. I now see the class has switched to end boom sheeting. Not sure what to think about that in relationship to the V25.

I use end boom sheeting on our Mac 25 to a travelor mounted on stern pulpit uprights, used aluminum angle with ss u bolts, traveler off a tartan 37, and a piece of aluminum flat stock 4" wide, 3/8" thick and about 40" long UNDER the transom top, bolted in place via the stern rail mounts and some ss carraige bolts... you can pick the whole boat up by the stern rail if you wanted to... We use a sailing bimini and mid boom sheeting/traveler would not work.... how do I attach photos? I'm new at this.

Pictures must be placed on a public server such as
PhotoBucket. The instructions that follow are for photobucket, but other image hosting sites will be similar and this is not an endorsment of photobucket.
Go to your photobucket account.
Hover your mouse pointer over the picture that you want.
Several options will appear.
Go down to the IMG code and left click in the code box to the right.
Left click in the code box and select copy.
Now, while composing your post on this forum, right click at the place that you want the pic to appear and select paste. It will look like this:
Code: Select all
Here is a picture that I took in the San Juan Islands:

Cool, huh?
It will appear on the forum like this:

The forum software will automatically re-size the pic for easy viewing and when a member left clicks on it, the original size will be viewable. The board does not actually download, or store the pic, it just uses the code to make your browser do the work. Repeat for up to three pics/post. It is best to use the "Preview" option, to make sure that everything is OK, before you submit the post. There is a three picture limit/post, to help protect those that still have slow internet (me when out & about).
Flickr is a little more difficult.
- Left click on the pic that you want to post.
Above the pic, left click on "All Sizes".
Left click on the size that you want to post. Large works best.
Right click on the pic.
Left click on "Properties". A window will open.
Beside Address (URL), is the url that you will post. Copy all lines of it.
I triple click on it and it highlights all of it.
Copy and paste this between the [Img] tags in your post.
Enjoy,
~Rich
