And since this ramp is 12 miles closer to my cruising locations, I tend to use it more. When cruising areas south like Estero island and Fort Myers/Naples et al, I tend to favor the ramp at Matlacha Park.

Just my opinion but I would really like to see if there is a way to add a searchable link to posts like this - say addin ##STATE Ramps## ie ##Florida Ramps## when ever a post like this occurs. This is a really informative post that might be of interest to someone at a later date but it would be hard to find just searching without knowing the exact names of the locations.

YOU BET IT IS!
I believe it would be a great asset to the site. In fact, having a separate category which contains the state link and member supported information on all details of the ramp. Specifying the pros and con (local info) of the ramp and any safety issues to look out for (such as low haning branches cables and so forth).
For the best part, each ramp report would be signed by the member who wrote it so that it would be easy for one of us other members to contact that member and ask more additional info about it or the area surround the ramp/park.

I guess it must be area dependant because if you look in Lake County IL, the listings are poor or nonexistant. I like the insurance and understand that those who have had to us it, have gotten good service, but this feature does not seem well supported from what I have been able to tell - others may prove me wrong.

Anybody use activecaptain.com for this? It seems to be pretty detailed for this area with the most well known ramps.

I started updating my local sailing areas on Active Captain a few months ago. The database is growing and getting more accurate with time. Nothing beats the local knowledge and this seems a great place to put it.

Databases are great, but to make them really valuable here we should include a 'person of record' who uses them. Ramp info is dynamic and basing a trip on info from 3 years ago can lead to a bad trip.
Two years ago some Yahoos waked our town dock and damaged it - the town just pulled the ramp docks in late Sep since they couldnt repair and figured the season was almost over.
(leaving us with no launch for October - the season of Natures pastel artwork on the Hudson)

in the Uk we have a publication called the good launch guide,its also available on line,it gives you the details of the various slipways around the UK,its bias is towards Jet skiers but its a source of very usefull information,it includes parking information as well.
The UKMAO association has links on its website to the suitable slipways for macs,its collected from members,there are a lot of slipways that are not practicle for our use so the ones that are found to be of good use are listed,the list is incomplete but growing
im sure that there is a collective of knowledge on this forum that could be put to that use

one way to do this would be in the Trailers and towing forum right here
Standardise the subject heading
Ramp Report Bethlehem NY 12054
so that people can search on the word ramp report and zipcode in T&T to find the info
Now you enter your report in the body
Ill start one and see if it catches on.
[mod]FWIW, a unique 'single' word would make for much easier & more effective searching.
RampReport, for example ~fc[/mod]

That's a very good point. There are ramps around here that weren't repaired after Ivan or Katrina. Although I haven't seen them listed anywhere lately.

I have a web site with photos of ramps here in SW FL. most ramps are $5 and a few at $7. this includes launch and storage for the day.
PineLand I won't mention on Pine Island as fees are to much (last time I heard $20).
