Found this video of these 2 crazy guys sailing a 26M in high winds and waves, with no one at the helm! One skip is sitting in the sternrail seat, the other goes up on deck to play nip and tuck with the main....
This video proves how well a Mac can sail IMHO.

Enjoy

Do NOT show that to my wife, because I will never get her back on the boat.

I don't know about the 45 knot wind but the 45 deg was fairly right but think I would have a life jacket and a tether on especially to go forward, can't see much value in sitting in the water watching the boat sail away while I'm gasping for breath.
Like the idea of a dodger but it's a bit awkward if you have to get past it.
Excellent video and sure puts your mind at rest re the heeling of the Macs as that one was very stable.

Okay Im a real pessimist - I dont think they were heeling 45 degrees either..more like 30. I cant see a manual helm holding at 45 degrees let alone an AP.

Wow. That looked like FUN
I'll have to go back to working - I wanna autopilot!
As for the degree of heel: freezing a few frames when you can see the mast against the horizon, it does look like they were at 45 degrees at times.
I'm not so persuaded about the wind speed though. It might have been gusting to 45 knots but there doesn't seem to be enough disturbance of the water surface for a force 9 "strong gale"

But who cares? It must have been a really great trip!

Where do I start? I'm with Cat. I'm not buying 45 windspeed. I wasn't buying 45 degrees until that guy I never want to go sailing with went onto the deck without a PFD - - - then I thought maybe 35 + degrees - - - and what a great idea - - - lean UNDER the safety line with no PFD and see if the boat evens out so he can fall OB! - - - but don't spill the beer! They are having fun, I understand, I guess I'm getting old cause that kind of fun is dangerous IMHO.
I think he's probably going 7+ MPH.
Kewl video though.

I believe the 45 degree angle (Been there. Done that.), but not the wind speed.
Now Mr Pokerrick1. Since when are you concerned about a PFD
That was at the same time that I upgraded my PFD and made a resolution to always wear it when sailing alone (another broken resolution)
That was from the little book of quotations by Pockerrick1
Oh yes. Friday I finally got
Nice Aft in the water. She now is sitting at her slip just waiting for the good times to start. Am I the only one hearing angels singing

Wow That was GREAT! Talk about whetting the appetite!
So how can I save a youtube video to my HD so I can watch it without being on line?
