Just a brief comment on how great it is to own a According to my log, today will be the 40th time I have sailed the "Afternoon Delight" on Lake Michigan this summer with plenty of good sailing left. On windless days trawl 15 miles to Chicago's Navy Pier and back on well under 3 gallons of gas. To my recollection have owned 15 boats from 12ft Seawitch to 30 ft Bayliner and by far this is the best boat I have ever owned. Spotted 10 boats on Lake yesterday and 9 were sailboats, but I am preaching to the choir here but like the 80year old who called his doctor to report he had a woody when his doctor told him that it wasnt that uncommon among men his age "I know but I just had to tell someone".

We have owned our 07Mac since the day before Thansgiving last year and we have sailed and spent 95 days and nights on "INSPIRATION" so far and we love it, we also love it being paid for.

Rick where do you keep your boat?
I too love my Mac . Its been a great investment for my wife and myself and one we have shared a little ( I wish more would take advantage of it) with our Grown Children and Grand children.

My number one reason why I love mine so much.........



Makes my day when I hear other Mac lovers enjoying threir Mac's.

What beach is that?

The weather in Chicago has been great this week - a self employed carpenter took the opportunity to sail from Waukeegan to Milwaukee and back in his 32fter and raved about the winds said he was making 6+ knots every day, nice to be self employeed or retired sometimes. 2 and 1/2 years to go - I really need to find a profitable hobby soon, anyone got a laser engraver they don't want?

Over Labor Day weekend, we sailed Second Wind over to Block Island for a four-day vacation. With our 5ft draft, we were anchored with the rest of the keel boats in New Harbor, hoping no one anchored on top of us (in vain, as it turned out). As we dinghy'd over to the beach to reach Crescent Beach, we had to maneuver through a long line of Searay/Bayliner powerboats rafted together a few hundred yards off the beach. Once through that, we spied a lone MacGregor 26X anchored fore-and-aft in all of 24in of water just off the beach. We circled a couple of times to say "hello", but nobody was home. I *really* miss being able to do that!

On the other hand, the hot shower a few hours later was pretty nice!

As the owner of a heavy displacement "real boat" as some fools would compare, I fully intend to one day have a Mac Again....or even more if my plan holds together for post Cruise work.

The Mac can do lots of things that I can't with a 17,500lb displacement and the ability to motor at 14kts.

Sure there are limitations to a Mac....but I still love them and see one again in my future.

Rick, I bought my X back in Jan. and since than been to the Keys and all over SW Florida. I am still getting it equiped for single handed and added lots of things I needed for comport and safety.
Some of the trips are with the West Coast Trailer sailing Squardren (WCTSS) and will do a 4 day cruise to Cayo Costa with them Oct. 16th.

Why I love my Mac .... sunset in the San Juan Islands

I love my as well, also there are much "better" boats on the market ,the Mac is for me the optimal compromise. I´m living in Southern Germany at a place about 100km appart from the next Lake. So I have the boat behind my house, allways ready to be modified when it´s not somewere in the water. On the other hand I can and move it werever to it´s reasonable. I.g. in 2008 I was sailing through the Adriatic Sea, the lake Geneva and now the boat is set into the Chiemsee/Southern Bavaria/Germany.

Nice pictures of all and slipped to the sandy beach. I could´nt have parked my like this on the areas I have been sailing this year because the banks are to steep there or ground was to rough.

However I was thinking about that when I was sailing at the Berlin lakes year ago. But I was allways afraid to do so. I thought it might be very difficult to get my floating again after "parking" on the beach . Is it very common to do that at shallow beaches, how many force is required to push the boat back into the water, has somebody bad experience as well?

With the pic where I was, I just drive up onto the beach, kids play in the sand and water for a few hours, BBQ, whatever, then its all aboard, I start the engine, tilt her down just enough, gradually roll on the power in reverse, and off she comes. It is as easy as pulling into a parking space and backing out again later.

Gotta love the Mac.

Every time I do this, several curious folks come by and politely ask if I have some time to answer some questions about my sailboat.

first off I have an , second the original post mentioned Chicago and I simply commented upon the great sailing weather and gave an example, and 3rd, the reason I use the handle tangentair - is that flying off on a tangent is a way of life I have cultivated.
We were out yesterday in 1-2 ft waves, SE wind 5 to 10 (mostly 5), without trying we were glideing along at 3-4 knots at 15 degrees, my teenage son sat and did his homework and my wife napped in the sun. With all the forces pulling families apart, to be able to spend an afternoon quietly and pleasently together was a real joy.
